ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) – a leader of an international heroin smuggling ring that brought more than $800,000 worth of heroin from Ghana through Dulles International Airport has been sentenced to 14 years in prison. Sixty-2-year-old Edward Macauley was arrested in his home country of Ghana last year and extradited to Virginia to face federal charges. Macauley is 1 of a dozen defendants who have been charged.

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) – The Washington Capitals can only hope they don't run out of goalies before they run out of games. Coach Dale Hunter said Friday that Braden Holtby will start in Saturday's regular season finale against the New York Rangers.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The ill daughter of Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum has been taken to the hospital. Santorum's campaign said Friday that 3-year-old Bella had been returned to the hospital. She has the rare genetic condition Trisomy 18 and was hospitalized earlier this year with pneumonia.

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) – Officials say an SUV crashed near the Arlington National Cemetery after a police chase, injuring five adults and one child. Police say the incident began about 3 p.m. Thursday after police received a report of grand larceny at a Tysons Corner mall store. An officer assigned to the mall area responded and briefly stopped the suspects inside the SUV, but car sped away.
