Giants Stadium. Where both the New York Giants and the Jets gather to watch their team of choice do battle on Sunday. The Giants are the NFC team representing NY while the Jets are the AFC team representing NY.
The New York Giants were the first tenants in the Meadowlands back in 1976, but the neighboring New York Jets wanted to move out of Shea Stadium in Queens, NY and made New Jersey their home permanently in 1984. now, both teams alternate weekends for home field.
Giants Stadium has hosted college football games for many surrounding colleges in the New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York area. it is not home to any particular school, but projected high attendance games are played at Giants Stadium. Notre-Dame has played both Army and Navy, Temple, Penn State, Columbia and Rutgers have used the stadium for large attendance games.
Numerous music concerts have been held at this facility, and the stadium has been used by former soccer and other football leagues that are now defunct. Pope John Paul II made a visit in 1995 to celebrate Mass at the stadium.
A new stadium is under construction and is planned to open in August 2010. it will be home to both the Giants and the Jets and will be the second largest permanent seating facility, with FedEx Field in Washington DC being the largest permanent seating stadium, in the NFL.
