Was Shannon Gilbert Murdered by a Long Island Serial Killer, or Was It Coincidence?

Authorities found remains of Shannon Gilbert in a ditch of thick brush, weeds and marsh off a barren road on Long Island, a year after her disappearance. in searching for her, however, authorities found remains of 10 other women, as well.

Is there a serial killer on the loose? “I’m not convinced that these murders are related,” said Pat Brosnan, a former NYPD homicide detective. “the 10 bodies that were found here were by all accounts deposited here. this is exactly the type of area where by all accounts bodies are deposited for the simple reason that it’s desolate, it’s easily accessible and it’s convenient.”

Brosnan does believe, however, that the remains of the 10 other women found share commonalities in the condition of their remains and how they were deposited. he believes that Gilbert’s case, though, could be coincidental.

Could a potential serial killer return to the area that has now received so much attention? “My sense of it is, it elevates the excitement that is connected with the event,” he said. “I think it’s going to get worse before it gets better.”
