Top Three Weather Apps for the iPhone

With everyone being out and about, often times people find themselves checking out the weather on their mobile phones so they can properly plan their outdoor events. The iPhone has a plethora of applications to help you find out almost every detail you’re going to need to find what you’re going to wear for the day, and even go storm chasing if you would like These applications are almost always low cost (under ten dollars) or even free. however with so many of them its hard to find a really good application for your needs. here are my favorite weather applications in no particular order.

Radar Scope ($9)

Radar Scope is a great application from the folks at Base Velocity LLC. unlike other weather applications Radar Scope does not display image captures of Radar Data, it actually interprets the digital data directly from the official radars of the government’s National Weather Service.

The use of the digital data allows users to identify storm features easily. many storm spotters use this application when out chasing to find couplets in the radar’s velocity product. The Radar Scope application also integrates the standard gestures of the iPhone allowing users to pinch and stretch the map to zoom and drag the finger around to zoom. if you’re in an active storm area you can also see the location of active storm spotters on the radar as well as your position. The only drawback to this application is that it only works in the continental United States.

The Weather Channel (Free)

The Weather Channel is currently the top weather application in the iPhone marketplace and it’s also the most popular free iPhone 4 weather app. It features location based forecasts, severe weather alerts, radar and even traffic cameras The map is integrated with Google Maps and shows cloud cover, radar, temperature and even the Ultra Violet light index.

The main drawback of The Weather Channels iPhone application is the large advertisement on the top of the application which can be annoying at times.

iWeather

iWeather is a great weather application from the folks at NPC NV. It allows users to input a city in the input field and then press search. You will then be guided to a webpage showing a graphic representation of the weather over a Google Map type background of the city.

This application is not a classic iPhone application and can be accessed through the iPhone’s web browser by going to http://www.ilovewebapps.com/iweather/

Be Prepared For Your Day

With these top three weather applications you will be prepared for you day out and about. if your just traveling to work, going to classes or plan on a family day at the park these applications and weather applications like them are a must have for the iPhone.
