This week's new movie releases – April 30, 2010 – The Screening …

It doesn’t look like this upcoming weekend will be an intriguing one in terms of new movie releases. Opening this week are Samuel Bayer’s remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street” with Jackie Earle Haley, as well as Roger Kumble’s comedy “Furry Vengeance” with Brendan Fraser and Brooke Shields.

Synopsis: Freddy Krueger returns in “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic. a group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. as long as they stay awake, they can protect one another…but when they sleep, there is no escape.

First thoughts: Okay, let’s start with the good: Jackie Earle Haley plays Freddy Krueger, and I am positive he can pull this off without a problem. The bad: Michael Bay is a producer on the film, and you know what that means. anyway, trailers and TV spots suggest a visually interesting update, so let’s hope it will be scary and intriguing as well.

Synopsis: a real estate developer moves his family from Chicago to Oregon when his job calls for him to oversee the building of a major housing development. but when his latest project threatens the homes of the local forest creatures, the animals seek revenge by turning a peaceful cul-de-sac under construction into a battlefield of epic proportions. It’s man versus nature and the fur is gonna fly!

First thoughts: I know I am wasting my time as I am typing this. I personally believe this one could become the worst film of the new decade. have you seen the embarrassingly lame trailer? It’s a dirty shame. enough said.
