Career Fair 2011 is taking place in Building 19, Room 103 and 104 in the Center for Meeting and Learning from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Twenty-eight employers are represented.

Both students and members of the community are welcome to attend.

“It’s a great opportunity for students and hopefully job seekers to get opportunities for employment and to network,” said Career Advisor Tammy Simpson.

Dick Bennink, executive director for Eugene Area Radio Stations, is one of event’s sponsors. EARS is a non-profit organization the represents 18 Lane County radio stations.

“What EARS does is work exclusively with non-profit organizations offering an extremely low-cost way to market their services through public service announcements,” Bennink said.

The organization offers copywriting and production services tailored to meet a group’s individual budget.

Besides their sponsorship at the job fair EARS also offered five $3,000 scholarships last year and supports other community activities.

Tina Hunter, career and employment advisor, recommends for attendees to be prepared to meet employers by dressing appropriately and bringing resumes.

“The employers are here to hire. several have positions listed with their companies,” Hunter said.

U.S. Bank, Bi-Mart Corporation, Farmers Insurance, Western Beverage and many media outlets are among the employers represented at today’s event.

“Employers were coming up to the last minute wanting to register for the career fair,” Hunter said. She also noted that the majority of participants are listed on the career center’s website at:

The job fair is holding drawings for door prizes and many tables offer free promotional items.

“I’m hoping for a great turn out,” Hunter said.
