The New iPad Likely To Alter Gaming Fad

With Apple’s unveiling of new iPad lots of interesting stories are due to develop in coming days. Last day we told you about how Proview issued a warning letter to Chinese distributors and resellers and today there’s a speculation that with the higher graphics quality and faster processor will bring the new iPad right next to the gaming consoles as a rival.

Retina display and A5x quad-core chip, both have attracted the top end of gaming industry and left them wondering either the new slate will dent the sales of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 or not.

Sony’s PlayStation 3 has sold 62 million units and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has sold 65 units. On the other hand iPad is quickly catching up to those numbers with 55 million units’ sale. the trend is expected to change as 15.43 million iPad units were sold merely in last quarter.

Mike Capps, president of Epic Games said “Apple is definitely building their devices as if they care a lot about ‘triple-A’ games…It is quite easy to imagine a world where an iPad is more powerful than a home console, where it wirelessly talks to your TV and wirelessly talks to your controller and becomes your new console.”

He also said that gamers may still like to sit back at their sofa seats in their home and enjoy gaming on bigger screens but Apple is likely to alter that course of action in near future.

“when the iPad gets to the processing power that’s equal to an Xbox 360 and it connects to a television, that’s no big deal to us. We’ll put the game through the iPad and have it display through the television.” said Frank Gibeau, president of Electronic Arts.

EA has already shifted its Dead Space, and Mass Effect video games on iPad platform.

Jeremy Parish who is the editor in chief of gaming blog said “for the console makers, it has got be a little bit of an embarrassment to say that this tablet has more power and better screen resolution. But at the same time, this will not be the motivating factor to get them to jump into a new generation of consoles.”

Over this debate a spokesman from Sony says that PlayStation 3 is having a strongest year ever, whereas Microsoft declined to comment.

Experts view that gaming consoles will not cease to exist as they hold a certain gamers’ market that will not shift to other platform as of iPad but certainly new iPad will make its presence fell by hurting the sales of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
