Text Message Donations To Haiti Pass $5 Million, Over Half A …

The Obama administration hit on something this week when they setup a special number users could text in order to make a donation to Haitian relief efforts. that number 90999 with the word “HAITI” inserted will give $10 to relief efforts, with no text charges or other hidden charges applied.

According to TechCrunch, those numbers include over $2.63 million from AT&T users alone, while T-Mobile, Verizon and other major carriers are also allowing over the phone donations.

The $10 fee is added to the customers next cell phone bill and goes to help Red Cross efforts throughout the island nation. Currently the total amount donated sits around $5.2 million. not bad for a bunch of text messages that take about 20 seconds to send, 10 seconds if your kid does the texting and decides to hit you with a $10 surcharge on your next bill.
