Super Bowl 2012: Matthew Broderick channels Ferris Bueller in ad
Who says Super Bowl commercials need to wait for the Super Bowl? Honda is getting a jump on game day competition with Monday's release of the full-length version of its hotly anticipated Honda CR-V commercial starring Matthew Broderick.
In the commercial, Broderick conjures one of film's (and his own) most beloved roles — that scamp Ferris Bueller taking the day off from school and making the most of it. only this time, it's Broderick who's playing hooky by ditching a day of filming in Los Angeles.
The commercial revisits several key moments from "Ferris Bueller's Day off," including the music, the towel turban, the star's habit of talking directly to the camera, the reckless valet and, of course, the fun-filled day on the run.
Amazingly, Broderick doesn't hit a smidgen of traffic as he makes his way from the beach to the Natural History Museum, back to the beach for a little tai chi (if the timeline is to be believed) and more.
The most famous line from the movie — "Bueller, Bueller, Bueller" — is revisited; but this time, the line comes when the valet brings up the Honda for "Broderick, Broderick…"
Fans of the classic 1986 John Hughes film might be disappointed that only Broderick shows up in the commercial. How much more fun would it have been if the commercial had included Mia Sara and Alan Ruck…
Meanwhile, buckle up, America. You're about to be barraged with Super Bowl commercials.
The stakes are higher than they've ever been for Super Bowl commercials. Companies are paying NBC an average of $3.5 million for a 30-second spot, and more than $6 million for a 60-second spot. Even that marquee stage isn't enough. Advertisers want more eyeballs, so they're pulling out all the stops to drum up interest — and a captive audience.
Our sister blog, Company Town, notes that Kia Motors is currently showing its upcoming Super Bowl Optima ad in movie theaters. that ad features scantily clad supermodel Adriana Lima, Motley Crue and mixed martial arts fighter Chuck Liddell for good measure.
And Volkswagen has rolled out a commercial … for a commercial.
The only question is this: will these early glimpses of Super Bowl commercials help advertisers? Or will "seen-it-already" audiences use the game day replay as an excuse to go in search of more guacamole and chicken wings?
Perhaps any publicity is good publicity. Last's year's big commercial — Volkswagen's "the Force" — featured a boy dressed like Darth Vader and using dark powers to (allegedly) start the family Passat. it now has nearly 50 million views online and has won all sorts of honors.

Google News: How It Can Boost Website Hits
Google News has become an incredible aggregator, bringing together news articles from around the world in one simple to use location. like anything else that Google does, it provides individuals with the best listings and the best results, helping to drive even more traffic to specific websites.
Google News is a tool that can be used to boost website hits. Website owners simply need to learn how to use it to their advantage. the following information will show you how you can increase website traffic and boost website hits by using it on a somewhat regular basis.
Building a News Website
Practically anyone can submit their news stories to Google News, throwing all of their news content to the website. you simply need to have a website that is dedicated to specific topical news in some way. If you did not plan on a News Website, simply create a small niche news website that covers news that is related to the product, service, or information that you are pushing on your own website. you will be able to push your news to Google News, which will bring people directly to your targeted niche news site.
Connecting the News Websites To your Website
You then need to find a way to connect your actual website to the news website that you have created to direct traffic from Google News. This is why the topical news website is crucial – the topical news will be easy to bring back to the product, service, or information that you are pushing. you will be able to link to your product throughout all of the various posts that you create that are based on news stories. you will be able to link people back to your initial website, bring in a world of possibilities for future and current traffic.
Why This Works
It can be easy to be intimidated by anything that involves Google. Google indexes the websites of the world, bringing all of that information together for those who are searching for information. Google News is different through, bringing up news stories from websites that are generally unheard of. it works to understand what the best news stories are and works to direct you to the sources that have good information. Strong content for a niche news website is likely to show up on any searches for that type of news.
While Google News may not be the right marketing platform for some, it can be a perfect tool for others. Take the time to understand how it works and how your website could benefit from it’s use. If you think that your website would be a good fit for this marketing process, use it to it’s fullest extent. If you think that your website will not benefit from it, look into other traffic-driving tools, such as redirection and backlinks. while Google News is an incredible tool, some websites will benefit from a different marketing focus.

Ron Artest changes name to Metta World Peace
NBA
Visualize Artest as World Peace
A court commissioner granted a request by Ron Artest to officially change his name to Metta World Peace on Friday, three weeks after the bid was blocked because the Los Angeles Lakers’ forward had unpaid traffic tickets.
Patricia Kelly, a court spokeswoman, said the 31-year-old Artest’s new last name will be World Peace.
His publicist, Courtney Barnes, said the player chose Metta as a first name because it is a traditional Buddhist word that means loving and kindness toward all.
“Changing my name was meant to inspire and bring youth together all around the world,” World Peace said in a statement released after the hearing. “After this short delay, my tickets have been paid and I’m glad that it is now official.”
He requested the change in June, citing personal reasons.

“I’m coming straight ahead,” he said. “This fight is not going the distance.”

Penguins’ Crosby to practice
Injured center Sidney Crosby plans to practice with the Pittsburgh Penguins when they open training camp on Saturday.
When the superstar returns to game action is another story. he was victimized by hard hits in successive games Jan. 1 and 5 and was forced to miss the rest of the regular season and the postseason with a concussion.
“Seeing Sidney Crosby on the ice in that jersey and at practice, it’s always good to see that,” coach Dan Bylsma said. “He’ll be out there with his teammates participating.”
Doughty doesn’t report to camp
Defenseman Drew Doughty didn’t report to the Los Angeles Kings’ training camp in El Segundo, Calif., while waiting for a new contract.
Doughty, 21, is seeking a lucrative long-term deal, but negotiations have stretched through several months.
“We’re going to continue to have dialogue,” general manager Dean Lombardi said. “He’s going to be a King for a long time.”
Doughty became the second-youngest Norris Trophy finalist in league history as a 20-year-old in 2009-10, his second season. Only 19-year-old Bobby Orr ever earned earlier consideration for the award as the league’s top defenseman.

Spain, Argentina have 2-0 leads

Defending champion Serbia, playing without top-ranked Novak Djokovic, trailed Argentina 2-0 in Belgrade in the other semifinal. Djokovic has an ailing back.

Olympic champion Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia ran the fastest time of the year in the 10,000 meters at the Van Damme Memorial in Brussels, Belgium, less than three weeks after not finishing the world-championships final in South Korea because of hip and hamstring problems.
Bekele won in 26 minutes, 43.16 seconds. Lucas Rotich of Kenya was second in 26:43.98.
Galen Rupp was third, setting an American record of 26:48. Rupp surpassed the previous record by a full 11 seconds, set by Chris Solinsky in April 2010.

• United States captain Todd Clever will be allowed to resume play immediately at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
Clever, 28, was cited after a 13-6 victory over Russia on Thursday and admitted to a dangerous-tackle charge, which Jeff Blackett, the IRB’s independent judicial officer, deemed to be “at the lower end of the scale of seriousness.”
Blackett said there was no adverse effect on the tackled player and no further sanction was necessary.
• Dean Barker skippered Emirates Team New Zealand to victory over former teammate Russell Coutts aboard San Francisco-based Oracle Racing to reach the final of the match-racing championships in the second stop of the America’s Cup World Series.
After Coutts won the first race, Barker came back to win the final two races in the best-of-three sailing semifinal in Plymouth, England.
Barker was Coutts’ understudy in the 2000 America’s Cup; Coutts is a four-time America’s Cup winner.
Team Korea and its British skipper, Chris Draper, will face Sweden’s Artemis Racing in the other semifinal on Saturday, with the winner moving on to face Team New Zealand for the championship.

Bing Versus Wolfram Alpha: A Tale Of Two Search Engines

In the past month, we’ve seen some new search engine launches. two in particular were able to generate a hype cycle of early positive reviews and excitement: Bing and Wolfram Alpha. One was launched by Microsoft, and the other by a startup. it is inherently not a fair comparison because Microsoft has so much more money to spend on marketing ($80 to $100 million is earmarked for Bing)> But most of the buzz so far has been generated by the respective launches with all of the blog and news coverage that entails.
So even though it is not fair, let’s compare the two, because it is instructive. There is little data on actual traffic or search volume for either site at this point. Instead, I looked at another proxy of interest: Google searches for both sites as measured by Google Trends. as you can see by the chart above, searches for “Wolfram Alpha” began to build up the weekend that it soft launched on May 15, peaking the following Monday, and then trailing off after that. it had a strong showing, and then interest waned.
Interest in Bing, on the other hand, started out just as strong with its unveiling last week. Then when it actually launched, interest shot up even higher. The positive experience many people had with their first search certainly helped.
Now, the question is: can Bing keep up the momentum, or will interest in the latest search experiment fade away as fast as it did for Wolfram Alpha? that is where Microsoft’s big check book and that advertising campaign come in. you are going to be hearing a lot more about Bing overt the next few months: on TV, on the Web, and, yes, even on Google. Microsoft cannot afford to let Bing disappear from view.

Five Tips To Get Your Links Retweeted Like Crazy
Introduction
You read about how Twitter is the next big thing on the internet. Blog gurus rave about
how their websites were choked with traffic as their blog articles got retweeted. You spend a few months on Twitter building a huge followership. Finally you realize that nothing that you post on Twitter get your followers interested. Where did things go wrong? here are five tips to help your blog articles get more traffic from Twitter through retweets
GET RETWEETED: GET FREE TWITTER TRAFFIC
1. Install the retweet button
A lot of people realize the importance of an article when they read it. But most people need to be told the importance of an article before they realize its significance. When your articles are engaging enough, your blog visitors tend to form an opinion for or against what you have written. Either way is fine, but ensure you instigate their thoughts to make an opinion. Such a visitor shall surely be looking to put his point of view forward to his group, and the retweet button reminds him to do just that – retweet your link.
2. Cater to the Ego
Let us suppose you write an article on “Most beautiful cities in the world”. No matter how much time you spent in researching your subject, all that the reader wants to know is whether his city has made it to the list or not. a tweet on this post mentioning the title of this post with a link to your blog might get you casual visits, but then that is not enough to make them hungry to retweet. To do that, soothe or hurt their ego. a tweet that reads ‘Detroit better than New York in beautiful city list’ is sure to make both Detroit and New Yorkers read your blog and either praise or curse you while retweeting. and people from other cities are always going to visit you to see where their city stands!
3. find the maven
While growing your followership is important, the quality of your followership is important too. there are the ‘absorbant‘ kinds – those who read all your tweets but don’t care sharing them to others and the ‘dispersant‘ kinds – those who retweet anything mildly interesting. Study the behavior of twitterers, and follow them. Retweet interesting links they have posted (Why? Read Point 2). Reply to their tweets with your opinion or suggesting better reads. they are sure to follow you. they matter a LOT!
4. Direct message with link
If you blog about “pets”, keep following all that people tweet about “pets”. You can do so by simply following the Twitter search RSS feed for that particular keyword on your RSS reader. Study the kind of things people tweet about. a lot of them could be people tweeting queries on the subject. Check back on your blog to see if you have written about those queries. if not, write down a quick post and reply to the twitterer with this link. do this to a few people a day and you will have people following your blog posts blindly and retweeting every article you post.
5. put it in perspective
Statistics are great. People like them a lot. But you need put your statistics in perspective to get them ‘retweet’ interested. “200 people infected with Swine flu” is a good article to tweet about. But what does the reader want to know? 200 people – Is it too many people or less? But suppose you tweet ‘Swine flu has affected 50% more people than SARS’- now this is something that will set the reader thinking. he is definitely going to retweet to alert his followers on the danger posed by this new flu!
