Smartphone Ranking – What Is Significance of Smartphone Ranking?

The Smartphone ranking is often seen as the real indicator about the different smart phones being offered to you from various companies. The ranking is hugely important as this can give boost to one product by placing it on the number one place quite easily. there is however need to study the ranking in detail before making the decision about any product, not simply taking the ranking as a simple deciding factor for it.

The ranking indicators have to be followed in detail according to your own requirements to reach at the number one. The number one according to the list might not be the one according to your requirements, so studying the different specifications like overall design, style, touch screen, slider, candy bar, display resolution; screen size, depth, width, and weight are seemingly similar in different products. In overall decision of the purchase they might be important especially for a person with visibility problem otherwise for everyone else these specifications are quite similar in almost every Smartphone.

Your phone serves as entertainment centre also, so rating indicators for this like multimedia support, digital player, battery life, digital camera, voice recorder, video recorder, call features, call hold, caller id, call timer, are all moderately significant indicators so one should see the standing of these things but not overly stress upon anyone one of them. The digital camera for example is quite similar from most as 5MP as standard. But you can have one which is 8MP if you wish to have better images too.

The important or deciding factors for the Smartphone ranking can be the access features, like Wi-Fi, Memory storage, operating system, GPS, standby time, warranty and the internet browser. These are the things which are more important in the ranking. even as I write this ranking indicator standing, this can be different for you quite easily. In light of this discussion you can easily select the different smart phone from the ranking but still the ranking does serves the crucial point of creating a base for comparison for the consumer. Hence it serves as a great too and helps in making the informed choice.

Holiday mCommerce: Driven by Tablets or Smartphones? « Get Elastic Ecommerce Blog

Pop quiz: what kind of device are more shoppers planning to purchase through this holiday season – a tablet or a smartphone?

Make a guess before reading on!

According to ThreatMetrix survey of 722 active Internet using consumers, 37% intend to make a purchase using their smartphone, nearly three times as many as those who plan to use their tablet. (View the entire infographic on The High Low).

Why? one explanation is how we use the mobile web — tablets are used primarily in the living room, not on-the-go, making it just as easy to transact from a desktop or laptop machine than fiddle with a touch screen. a smartphone is on your person most, if not all of the time.

But more likely the reason is simply, despite the rapid adoption of tablets, more folks own a smartphone. According to Forrester Research, 9% of consumers owned a tablet vs 39% owning a smartphone when surveyed in June 2011.

    So…smartphones win?

    Not so fast…

The top categories folks are willing to purchase with mobile devices are music and apps (77% and 73%, respectively), gas (69%) and travel (52%). Consumer electronics (48%) and clothing (42%) are not far behind, but pale in comparison to digital downloads that enhance the device and practical purchases like gas and travel. in other words – folks are shopping for themselves, most often for content that enhances their experiences with their own devices.

If you strip out device-enhancing purchases like ringtones, according to Forrester, only 13% of consumers have purchased a physical product through their smartphone. Contrast this with 47% of tablet owners.

The real growth in mcommerce will come from tablets

In Why Tablet Commerce may soon Trump Mobile, Sucharita Mulpuru cites a study by Forrester and Bizrate that found more than half of tablet owners prefer to shop with their tablets over their smartphones, thanks to larger screens. some are using tablets as replacement for PCs, a trend that’s likely to continue. Tablet owners also spend more time on the web, and more time browsing just for fun. (A stat mentioned at the X.Commerce launch last week was the top reason for visiting mobile retail sites was because users are bored and want to kill time – 78%)!

Retailers surveyed by Forrester report that 21% of their mobile traffic comes from tablets, some over 50%.

    It’s not either-or

Regardless of whether a survey finds more shoppers use smartphones or tablets to access your site, you need to optimize for both experiences. You may have higher traffic Monday to Thursday, but it doesn’t mean you take down your site on weekends. The point is not to prioritize one at the expense of the other, they complement each other.

Remember, mobile “shopping” consists of more than completing a purchase, including product research (search/browse and reading ratings and reviews), price comparison and store hours/location lookup. Google predicts 44% of last-minute gift and store location searches will be mobile in December. Searches are performed on both smartphones and tablets. And your email messages are accessed on both devices, too.

Maximize the value of your mobile investment

The value of mobile optimization extends beyond what you can measure through analytics, making true ROI difficult to measure. Customers who use mobile to browse and research may complete their purchases on their desktops or laptops. Features that support cross-device shopping, such as saved carts, wishlists and shopping-list style applications can help you squeeze more value out of smartphone and tablet visits, as can triggered emails for carts abandoned on mobile devices so purchases can be easily completed online (get that email address in the first step!)

    Overcommunicate security

Are small screens the biggest deterrent to shopping on mobile devices? Nope. 45% of online consumers say that they would shop more if their mobile phone numbers could be kept private, and 44% if mobile payments were more secure, compared to 36% if mobile sites had more features and functionality, and 32% if their mobile devices had a larger screen.

Compare the percentage of consumers who fear mobile security (44%) to those who fear sharing financial information online in general (28%). your job to instill confidence is to overcommunicate the security of your mobile website. I recommend the following:

    1. Offer an alternative payment option such as PayPal or Google Checkout (PayPal is more ubiquitous).2. Title your checkout process “Secure Checkout” instead of “Checkout.”3. Label your checkout button “Secure Checkout” or use a lock icon.4. place point-of-action assurances proximal to credit card/financial information entry fields (Verisign badges, links to details of your privacy and security policies).

Apple Updates iPod Nano Firmware to 1.1

Apple has just released a patch for the iPod Nano’s (6th generation) firmware, bumping the MP3 player up to version 1.1 and adding a few minor features.

With the new firmware, users can now control music and radio playback using the iPod’s Sleep/Wake button, removing the need to look at the touch screen to navigate music. it also lets users completely shut down the iPod, instead of just making it sleep.

The firmware update is free and currently available over iTunes. the software should automatically prompt an upgrade the next time you sync your iPod. If that doesn’t happen, you can manually update your iPod by clicking “Check for Update” on the iPod screen in iTunes.

Review: Newest iPods get it right again by upping portability, adding and subtracting features

SAN FRANCISCO – By now, Apple’s introduction of new iPods each fall is about as surprising as kids going back to school.

And, as usual, many of the changes CEO Steve Jobs announced this month were expected, such as the addition of cameras to the iPod Touch.

But Apple Inc. took some risks this time with its lineup, too. It cut the video recording and playback features from the Nano to shrink it while adding a touch screen, and went back in time stylistically to rework the tiny Shuffle.

The results, as expected, are awesome across the board.

IPod Nano ($149 or $179): The latest Nano has gotten the biggest makeover of the bunch, trading in its rectangular body for a small square and eschewing the traditional iPod click-wheel controls in favor of a touch screen flanked by a few buttons.

I thought that having such a teeny touch screen — about 1.5 inches diagonally — would be annoying. It turned out to be slightly irksome at first but nearly as intuitive as the old click wheel once I got used to swiping it to find my way around.

If the old Nano said, "Take me with you," the new Nano screams, "only a fool would leave me at home!" It’s less than half the size of the old Nano and fits in even the smallest pocket. And it finally comes with a built-in back clip, so you can attach the player to your shirt or pocket when you’re exercising or walking around. Adios, expensive clip case.

The built-in pedometer, introduced on the last Nano, seems like a better idea now that the gadget has a more portable body.

You also don’t need to worry whether you’ve clipped it on upside down, as Apple smartly included a feature that lets you flip the screen’s orientation by twisting two fingers on the screen.

I thought I’d miss the video camera included on the previous Nano since I don’t like having options taken away from me. but after a little while I totally forgot about it. It would have been neat if Apple at least kept the video playback option, but such a small screen — about 1.5 inches diagonally — is hardly ideal for watching episodes of "Glee." The old screen, at 2.2 inches, was diminutive but did the trick if I needed a video fix on the fly.

Apple says the Nano, which comes with 8 or 16 gigabytes of storage, should give you up to 24 hours of music playback; I got close to 15 hours from a single charge when listening to music and viewing photos.

IPod Touch ($229-$399): as with the last iPod Touch, the new version is much like an iPhone without the phone — a great alternative if you want to avoid a two-year service contract, especially since the phone part is often derided as the iPhone’s weakest suit.

Like the iPhone 4, the new Touch has a gorgeous, super-sharp display that is great for surfing the Web and watching videos. It’s stocked with Apple’s newest mobile processor and comes with 8, 32 or 64 GB of storage.

The new iPod Touch also follows the iPhone 4′s lead by adding cameras in the front and back. this means you can take photos and HD-quality videos and conduct video chats with other owners of the new Touch and latest iPhone.

The cameras bring the Touch to a whole new level. Before, it was a slick multimedia player that could access the Internet and download apps over Wi-Fi. now, it’s a potential replacement for a simple point-and-shoot — though, sadly, it still lacks a flash — and a better a communication tool.

Using FaceTime on the Touch is pretty sweet. Sure, video chat has been around for a while, and it’s already available on the iPhone 4. but there’s still something awesome about having video chat right in your pocket, assuming you are in a Wi-Fi hotspot. since the Touch doesn’t have a phone number that people can call for a FaceTime chat, you must choose which e-mail address (or addresses) people can use to reach you.

The Touch also comes with Apple’s new Game Center app, which lets you keep track of your gaming scores and play games against friends.

I had fun playing the fruit-slicing game "Fruit Ninja" against my iPhone-brandishing colleague Peter in New York, but it wasn’t seamless. we both noticed delays in seeing what the other had just done.

Still, you’ll have plenty of time to challenge others and do everything else: The Touch’s battery is rated for up to 40 hours of music or seven hours of video playback, and I got over 13 hours out of it when doing everything from playing games to perusing Apple’s iTunes Store.

IPod Shuffle ($49): at first glance, the new iPod Shuffle looks suspiciously like an older version of the same gadget, with its circular control panel and wee rectangular body.

Looks can be deceiving, though. It’s actually a solidly updated device, both compared with its doppelganger, the Shuffle Apple released four years ago, and with the previous Shuffle that depended on controls attached to an earbud cord.

I like this return to the circular controls, which make it easy to navigate from song to song and pump up (or down) the jam. There’s a button for voiceover features on the side, which speak over the music to tell you what song you’re listening to.

And the $49 price tag — $10 lower than the previous Shuffle with the same 2 GB storage capacity — can’t be beat. Sure, it only has room for about 500 songs, and Apple is no longer offering a 4 GB Shuffle, but it’s more than enough to get you through plenty of workouts and commutes.

The Shuffle is supposed to get up to 25 hours of battery life; after using it for more than 15 hours, I clicked the voiceover button and a stilted male voice told me it still held a 25 percent charge.

Though I try to keep an eyebrow raised, year after year Apple convinces me of the merits of its latest iPods. There’s always room for improvement (I’d love more camera settings and a flash on the Touch, for example), and I bet Apple is already figuring out what problems to solve and features to add in the next versions. but they’re still far better than the competition — no surprise there.
