Despite His Proximity to Tebow, Broncos Radio Announcer Fired As High School Football Coach
While Jesus Christ is busy leading the Denver Broncos through the AFC playoffs, His guiding hand apparently couldn’t help the team’s radio play-by-play announcer, Dave Logan keep his job as a high school football coach.
Logan, calling the latest miracle performed by Jesus through His quarterback, Tim Tebow.
On Jan. 11, three days after his call of Tebow’s game-winning playoff touchdown pass, Logan was fired from his coaching position at Mullen High, an independent Catholic school in Denver. He was 110-12, with four state titles, in nine years at Mullen, following successful runs at two other Colorado high schools.
According to a Jan. 13 Denver Post story, wins and losses weren’t the issue in Logan’s firing. A big problem was Logan could not get on the good side of his higher power — Mullen president and CEO Ryan Clement.
Clement is a Mullen graduate who went on to become a starting quarterback at the University of Miami. He is an attorney who works for a lobbying and communications group in Denver. and like Logan, Clement wanted to have a coaching job, too, according to the Post.
But sources confirmed that trouble started before last season, when Mullen administrators wanted as many as three in-building assistants on Logan’s staff, including Clement as a possible quarterbacks coach. Logan would only allow that change is “their prerogative.”
New Mullen principal Jim Gmelich, who came to the school last year from Regis Jesuit, has refused to comment since the story broke Wednesday. Gmelich and Clement were prominent in making the decision to fire Logan, along with the board of trustees, which approved the move.
Clement, however, told the Post the issue was Logan’s celebrity (he’s also a radio talk show host) and a desire to have a full-time staff member as Mullen’s coach. Logan was unpaid, and spread what would have been his coaching salary among his assistants. From the Post:
[Clement said] the popular talk show host and longtime Broncos announcer had become the face of the school and that’s not what the new administration wanted, especially from someone who didn’t work at the school full time.
“In the case of Coach Logan, he had a greater celebrity outside, which was even magnified more,” Clement said. “The analysis of the impact on our culture is magnified by how the head football coach engages within the school. For that position, we felt we needed to have (the coach) be full-time faculty.
“if our greatest asset is our football coach, who’s not here very often, you can see it’s not who we’ve been.”
Logan, despite his very public platforms, has avoided talking tried to take the high road about the particulars of his firing.
Logan won’t be out of work as a coach for long. Denver media report schools are already lining up to make him an offer. That’s no surprise. Not only has he won (his career high school coaching record is 201-43), but he also is extremely popular both among his Mullen players and students (who staged a protest after his firing), and among the Denver public at large, for reasons that have nothing to do with his proximity to Tebow.
Logan was a legendary athlete in high school in Colorado, and at the University of Colorado. He was drafted by the NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball, but picked football, playing eight seasons as wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns and one season with the Denver Broncos, where his career ended in 1984. He’s called Broncos games for 15 seasons.
With that resume, Logan doesn’t need a Jesus Tebow miracle to find coaching work.

Bill Cosby Is Talking About Tim Tebow Again, This Time To ‘The Christian Post’
When we last heard from bill Cosby discussing the Rapture of Tim Tebow, it was in this video where it seems mr. Cosby insinuates that he believes Tim Tebow can control the weather.
Well, Cosby is back at it and he doesn’t disappoint. Speaking with The Christian Post, here’s what Cos had to say about his admiration for the Denver Broncos quarterback:
CP: I understand you’re a dedicated football fan and I recently saw a video of you encouraging Tim Tebow as he encounters public criticism. why do you like him?
Cosby: I like what’s happening in Denver. the beauty of what I see is that Tebow speaks his mind. When we look at the settling of this country we see a Bible in hand and God. Every Thanksgiving has God and the peacefulness of gratitude. it was important when the Twin Towers were hit and the sorrow with them that the first thing Congress did was sing “God Bless America.”
There are thus people in the media and business who after an athlete does something will give them a bum rush. mr. Tebow is someone who the media has picked on. ESPN found all sorts of athletes and experts to say this young man is not a good football player and that the other starting quarterback is better. They said his footwork is awful and that he is a freak or something that couldn’t play at all. People are Tebowing, Tebowing and Tebowing but Tebow won’t allow people to focus on what he has done and has not done. he just states the glory of being out there and the privilege of playing. he tells them how his team plays and succeeds and the way he does it is almost biblical.
While mr. Cosby has every right to express his opinions and he does make some extremely valid points, I do, however, have to take issue with a few of his comments. obviously, I cannot recall every single thing every single person has ever said about Tim Tebow, but I certainly don’t recall anyone — at least the so-called experts — ever saying he’s a freak. and referring to Tebow’s play as “biblical”? I have only one thing to add:
Jello Pudding.

Vote: Should Tim Tebow Be Selected to the Pro Bowl This Season? – NESN Daily – NESN.com
Tim Tebow is a polarizing quarterback, but he's also a winner. And after leading the Broncos to another come-from-behind victory on Sunday, he's making a case to be considered an NFL Pro Bowler.
The Broncos still have three games left on the schedule, one of which is against New England, but they currently sit atop the AFC West with an 8-5 record. While the defense has been extremely impressive lately, Tebow's fourth-quarter magic is undeniable.
The Broncos are 7-1 since Tebow took over as Denver's starting quarterback, and are in the midst of a six-game winning streak. Three of those wins have come in overtime, as Tebow continues to elevate his play down the stretch in games.
But are Tebow's contributions enough to warrant a Pro Bowl selection?
He hasn't really posted big numbers this season, throwing for 1,290 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions in the nine games in which he's appeared. he threw for a season-high 236 yards on Sunday, finishing 21 of 40, while also rushing 12 times for 49 yards.
The second-year pro has rushed 94 times for 517 yards and three touchdowns this season, and has fumbled seven times (losing five). his completion percentage sits at under 50 percent.
Tebow has completely changed the way the Broncos run their offense. While his 40 attempts against the Bears are far and away his highest total this season and a new career-high, it's obvious Denver has become more of a running team. in fact, Tebow threw the ball just eight times in the Broncos' Week 10 win over the Chiefs, not completing a pass until the third quarter and finishing with just two completions and 69 passing yards.
Because of his ability to pull out wins for a team that was sitting at 1-4 when he took over, there are some who feel Tebow is a legitimate MVP candidate. While that may be a stretch, should we at least be prepared to see Tebow in Honolulu?

Page One Book » Herndon: Chris Relf another quarterback success story for Dan Mullen

OXFORD, Mississippi — Dan Mullen is proud of his track record with quarterbacks. after hearing Nick Saban question how well spread offenses prepare players for the NFL during SEC Media Days, Mullen noted he’d coached two quarterbacks who were first-round draft picks — Tim Tebow and Alex Smith — and asked how many first-round QBs Saban had produced.
He already knew the answer, of course. Unless you count JaMarcus Russell, whom Saban coached during Russell’s first two years at LSU — one of which was a redshirt year — the answer is zero.
Chris Relf will not join that elite company. He may never even play in the NFL. but the job that Mullen has done with Relf this season rivals any of his previous successes.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound junior put together perhaps his best performance as a Bulldog in Saturday night’s Egg Bowl, completing 13 of 20 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for another 66 yards in a 31-23 win over Ole Miss.
Relf was a lightly recruited, two-star prospect out of Montgomery’s Carver High in 2007. MSU was the only offer he had when he committed to Sylvester Croom and Woody McCorvey the spring before his senior year.
Last year’s Egg Bowl was a coming-out party of sorts for Relf, who ran through the Rebels defense for 131 yards and a touchdown in a 41-27 upset win. this year, he did most of the damage with his arm, relying heavily on the speed of LaDarius Perkins, in particular, to turn short passes into long gains.
Relf was successful Saturday because Mullen has placed him in an offense that highlights his strengths. the option showcases his considerable running ability, and the short passing game masks his limitations. And it certainly helped Saturday that nobody in blue could catch Perkins.
It couldn’t have worked out better for Relf when Mullen came to Starkville. the same could be said for the entire program.
Mullen has taken one of the doormats of the conference, a team that had been to one bowl in nine years, and led it to respectability — and two straight wins over its arch-rival — in two short years.
This year’s success is likely to lead to job offers. Minneapolis TV station KSTP has reported that Mullen, Connecticut’s Randy Edsall and Houston’s Kevin Sumlin are among the candidates in which Minnesota is interested.
Mullen has brushed off the notion that he might consider leaving Starkville, — “To be honest, I don’t know where I would leave to go to,” he said recently — but if the money is right, he’ll go sooner or later. When he does, he’ll leave Mississippi State’s program better than he found it.
MSU athletic director Scott Stricklin said before the season that the Bulldogs had a chance this year to begin creating a new legacy. “A lot of schools want to hold onto history,” he said in August. “We want to change history, and I think we have a chance to do that going forward.”
Mullen has started that process. Beating Ole Miss for the second straight year was another step and the upcoming bowl bid — most likely the Chick-fil-A — will be yet another.
Now they just have to keep it going.
