As of now, we live in an economy where nearly 15 million people are unemployed. Companies are saving money by firing, and hiring as very few people as possible. so people who are in need of dough must get out of their comfort zone and get creative, and this is one way to do just that. Affiliate marketing is a great tool for those of you who are looking to make a living, or extra income. The profit potential for this is unlimited, but don’t expect to make a million your first year. there are people who do, and they work very hard at it and love what they do. this article will give you the basic information about affiliate marketing and how you can use it to make a living.

This is very simple. let me say that again, this is very simple. Affiliate marketing consists of businesses, an affiliate and consumers. An affiliate, the middle men, must do all they can to send online consumers to a company’s website, such as Amazon. The affiliates make money when the online consumer buys the product.

First, you have to find a company to hook you up with businesses. there are many companies out there that do just that. But like other businesses, there is the good, the bad and the ugly. you want to go for the good ones, and that’s partially the reason why I’m writing this, other that explaining concisely what affiliate marketers do.

Here’s what’s going to happen in sequence:

1. you have found the right company, and you decide to give them a call. An associate will explain to you their fee structure, what affiliate marketers do, and how much you could potentially make.

2. you reach the conclusion that it’s a good idea to join their program, and you give them your payment information.

3. The next day they send you emails containing links to websites dedicated to training novice affiliate marketers.

4. you spend a week reading everything and watching every video until your website is complete. (You can finally get to the dirty work when your website is complete. there are many ways you can lure buyers into your website, and I will explain one of them later on. )

The good thing about this type of business is that you don’t have to spend much time to gain leverage. What I mean by that is that, you can spend 7 hours a week doing what needs to be done and you will make money, I guarantee you. I have recently started, and I’m making a few bucks here and there, but I know that I will earn much more within the coming months as I gain more experience. Also I forgot to mention, running your own affiliate marketing is technically running your own business.

One way to lure in consumers to your website is via article marketing. this is, essentially, just writing an article that recommends a product you’re trying to sell, but genuinely. For example, you decide to write about the new kindle that just came out. you have just bought it and you are very satisfied with it, so you decide to write a review about it on ezines. you write what’s on your mind, and at the end of it you write your website’s address, so people can click on it. Let’s just say that an interested buyer has found your recommendation intriguing, which propound a click on the link to your website. once the person is on your website, he or she will click on the kindle link which will take him or her to Amazon. if the person decides to buy the kindle, you will receive a percentage on the price he or she paid for the kindle. you make more money as more people buy the kindle.

So there you have it. this is, basically, what affiliate marketing is all about. many people and companies try to keep information like this to themselves so that they could lure in interested-people by how much they could make. I’m just giving you the information I think is necessary for you to make the right decision. Affiliate marketing is easy, but then again, it isn’t for everyone. I’m an extrovert, so I have an easy time putting my thoughts into words and writing them, but this article is not about me. this article is for those of you who are desperate and hungry for money.

When you’ve worked in a certain field for awhile, searching for a part time job can seem daunting, but keep your chin up because this article will give you some starting points from which you may discover hidden talents or aptitudes you didn’t even know existed. Who knows, maybe the part time job you find will lead to a career in something totally unexpected, but even more fulfilling.

Step 1: What did you want to be when you grew up?

Although most require you to work a minimum amount of hours in order to receive these benefits. If you need to work at night then looking for a job which allows you to work from home might be a possibility as well. there are data entry jobs or medical billing jobs which allow you to be home. Or you could put those data entry skills to use at a hospital or other facility open 24 hours.

Step 3: be Bold and network like crazy

Now is not the time for the faint-hearted. after you have figured out several possibilities you want to try, stand in front of the mirror and give yourself a good pep talk. Polish off those interviewing skills and remember why you’ve been hired in the past. be prepared to sell yourself to each potential employer and start putting the word out to friends, former co-workers and family that you’re looking for a solid part time job and are open to suggestions.

New York City is a wonderful place to look for work because the possibilities are practically endless The more people you talk to about your quest the more you can be helped along your way. Confidence is key to landing a great part time job. Employers will be looking at your communication skills, whether or not you’re honest, and how well you can work in a team, just to name a few. The more you can demonstrate these qualities to those around you, the more likely someone you know may be able to recommend you to a potential employer. View yourself as a product you’ve just been asked to market. how would you go about establishing yourself as something someone would want to utilize?

LinkedIn Starts Strong For Second Straight Day

The largest networking professional site, LinkedIn, rose to new heights on its second straight day in trading by doubling the output shown yesterday. This gives stockholders a new sight on how firm the foundation is for the company after being backed by public offerings. This near perfect outing for the company lets the economy see that social media is still very much in demand.

Stocks rose 14% already this morning to a $107 total on the NYSE which adds to a very bountiful 109% surge before the final bell on Wall Street. for all you that want to participate in the company’s success, the ticker is LNKD.

The company’s market value as of today is a little over $10 billion which is about 27% of its total revenue this year. Facebook, which is the world’s largest social media network, would be valued at $107 billion if you use the same figures. all of this gives investors of newer companies a sigh of relief knowing that you do not have to go public right away to make money. This kind of venturing opens up brighter prospects in the capital industry.

“We knew this was going to be a super hot IPO and gives us further evidence of the enormous appetite for this wave of next- generation Internet companies,” Paul Bard, director of research at Renaissance Capital LLC, said in an interview with Bloomberg Television. “You are going to see more companies go public that will try to capitalize on this wave of interest.”

The debut of the company on the NYSE yesterday is reflecting a kind of comeback for venture capitalists. Companies that are backed in the U.S. raised $1.38 billion in the first quarter which is a 47% increase from a year ago. In late 2008, there were zero IPO’s that were venture-backed.

However, there is growing concern that the technology shares could be overvalued as most investors are trying to forget the 2007-2009 collapse of the market. Former Secretary of the Treasury Lawrence Summers stated in Shanghai earlier today that “Who could have imagined that the concern with respect to any American financial asset, just two years after the crisis, would be a bubble?” Summers, now a professor at Harvard University, said at a conference today in Shanghai. “Yet that concern is increasingly raised with respect to American technology, with respect to certain other American assets.”

The problem lies with most thinking that LinkedIn will not be able to keep this pace up. CIO of LinkedIn Dan Veru said that “At $100 a share, we would not be buyers. It far exceeded our expectations for what it would do in the first day of trading. It would be amazing to me, with the revenue base it has, if it maintains a $10 billion market cap.”

Even though the company’s performance is one of the best concerning stocks in the dot-com era, he wants people to know that every business cools down. Yahoo! Inc jumped 154% during its first day of trading way back in 1996. A year earlier Netscape double its debut.

“The valuation for LinkedIn is rich,” said Michael Moe, chief investment officer of GSV Capital Management in Woodside, California, in a televised interview with Bloomberg West. “To earn the valuation, it has to continue to grow very, very fast.”

An update from the Aristide Foundation for Democracy

When the Aristide Foundation for Democracy launched our mobile school project in late February we wanted to do two things quickly: support children living in refugee camps across Port au Prince and offer immediate employment to young Haitians at a time when the whole economy has collapsed. with generous support from the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund, we were able to get schools up and running very quickly. since late February we’ve been running mobile schools, three hours a day, five days a week, serving 1,260 kids in five refugee camps in the earthquake zone.

This project has surpassed our expectations at every level.

First the amazing compassion, vitality and professionalism of the 102 monitors we called on to staff the project has inspired us. the monitors are mostly young people who were students at the language and computer school of the Aristide Foundation at the time of the quake. Many of them have lost their houses and are facing terrible difficulties in their own lives.

The coordinator of the mobile schools at the Tarpage encampment in Tabarre, Mirlande Janvier, was buried under the rubble with her son for two days after the quake before being rescued by her neighbors. nevertheless she’s working full-time running the mobile schools in her community. All the monitors and staff come to work every day with incredible energy and love for the kids they are working with. In March they got a boost when Leah James, a social worker from the University of Michigan, did a training with them on how to support children suffering from the trauma of the quake. Second the overwhelming response of the families in the camps has humbled us. Parents and community members quickly came together to build the shelters in which classes are held. At each site when we opened there was a massive press of parents desperate to get their children into the schools. We knew we were offering a very modest program – under canopies in the open air, without books or professional teachers. the parents saw this as something far more profound – a chance, a future, some hope for their children. here are a couple of testimonies from parents:

Esau, 31, Nazon: I thank God every day that my children can continue their education here at the school. You spend your whole life working to build a home to make life better for your children and then in a moment the catastrophe takes all that work away from you. We moved from our house because there were a lot of cracks in the walls. the concrete split open and was hanging from the ceiling. It was not safe anymore. First we stayed [in a camp] near the airport but it was very crowded so a month ago we moved here (to Nazon). when the director accepted my children to attend this school, I was so very, very happy because I want them to continue learning and getting an education. It’s good for them to go to school to have a normal life like children should have. It helps them be more confident.

Marjory, 28, Tabarre: At the school my daughter learns to count, to say the alphabet and also she learns hygiene. when I come to walk her back after class she sings to me the songs they sing in the school. Her favorite song is “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.” now she knows all the parts of her body and the days of the week and months of the year. She is very clever and is learning everything very quickly. the teachers at the school are caring and love each of the children. They know what are the strengths of each child and they try to help each child. Going to school helps children forget about the earthquake for a short time. It’s good that the school is outside because the children will not go indoors. when there are aftershocks, the teachers calm the children.

We planned to take no more than 800 kids – we ended up with 1,260. We had to draw the line there because we simply don’t have the money to do more, but school coordinators in each camp continue to report getting pleas from parents every day to take their kids into the schools.

And then of course the kids themselves are amazing. They arrived from the first day in clean clothes, every child with shoes on. how is that possible when we know the kind of misery these families are living in? well, Haitians have always sent their children to school with pride and dignity – even an earthquake, even the misery of the camps, cannot shake that. Watching the kids sing, dance, play, laugh, smile has been healing for everyone involved – kids, monitors, coordinators, parents. It’s a cliche perhaps to say that children are resilient, and yet they are, and they are the future of the nation.

When we opened the schools, we thought, we hoped, we prayed that food distribution to families at refugee settlements would become more dependable. This has not happened. In none of the five camps where we are working is food distribution regular or sufficient to meet the needs of those living there.

The children arrived from the first day in clean clothes, every child with shoes on. how is that possible when we know the kind of misery these families are living in? well, Haitians have always sent their children to school with pride and dignity – they are the future of the nation.

Two of the settlements – at Nazon and at Fontamara – report that the Aristide Foundation was and is the first and only aid agency of any kind to come to where they are. these two camps are not on main roads – though they are smack in the middle of Port au Prince – but even at Carradeux on the campus of UniFA (the medical school of the Aristide Foundation), at Tapage in Tabarre, and at Building 2004, a stone’s throw from the airport, there is nothing resembling regular food distribution.

The grim reality in the refugee camps of Port au Prince right now is hunger. the snack we provide in the mobile schools is for many kids the only meal they get that day. that is both totally unacceptable and the situation we are forced to confront. Naturally children line up more than once, or stash away snacks for their parents. And yet, somehow the AFD monitors and coordinators along with the families in the camps have established enough discipline to run this project – including a daily snack distribution for the children right in the midst of camps of starving people.

There have been no major disruptions – a profound measure of how committed these communities are to making these schools work for their kids. the Aristide Foundation is committed too – to staying in the camps and working alongside the majority of Port au Prince’s inhabitants as we have for the past 14 years.

Needless to say, we aren’t getting help from the major aid organizations. perhaps that will save us. the mobile school project along with every other project of the Aristide Foundation is Haitian-led and Haitian-staffed. there is dignity in that. In the end only Haitians can lead the way out of this catastrophe.

It has been a tough year for many of us including the small business folk. As I look around my local neighborhoods I see many empty buildings and lots once occupied by startups and local residents turning their dreams into reality. It saddens me to see this as I know firsthand how difficult it is to maintain a business. Many of these small stores were built on entrepreneurial visions of a brighter future for their communities and families.

The recession has affected us globally and has trickled down into the fibers of our country. The places where big ideas started out in small garages have been challenged with the overbearing need for survival. At some point the economy needs to turn around and with this turn around will come new ideas and business innovations as people move from just being employed to being self-employed.

There are two sides to the recent economic challenges. As we have all seen the downward spiral it is essential that we look to the positive side. There has been a new spurt in small business startups. With many people unemployed job seekers are turning into job creators. A lot of us including myself have sought other means besides being subjected to the corporate windfall to survive. Turning an idea into reality is never an easy task but with the right amount of persistence and motivation anything is possible.

It is always hard to take the first step as many of us don’t know which direction to go in. Take things in stride, do something you love, and do it well. Cultivate something you enjoy into something that can sustain a business. Make the New Year a new tomorrow for your life and career.

Economic Turbulence – How to keep your Head Above Water with a New Venture.

It’s been a while since we last posted here at Foilball. Personal responsibilities have taken over for the last few months. As I am sure many of you can relate, we have felt under the gun over the last year with the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs, economic crisis, and more often than not just the little things in life that slow you down.

It has been a challenging time for American and global economies. We have pushed and pulled ourselves in every direction looking for change and the promise of a new tomorrow. Many of us have taken to the solo route, using our skills and abilities to push forward during these turbulent times.

What can you do to stay afloat in today’s kill or be killed atmosphere? We read a ton about people popping up with home business, get rich quick schemes, infomercials, “as seen on TV” ads, etc. How do we decipher what really works and what is just another scam hitting the ever growing e-shelf of business.

Here are a few steps to protect you against the arsenal of rip-offs, internet scams, and get rich quick methods.

1. Use your head – Nothing beats common sense. If it feels too good to be true it probably is. I was watching an infomercial on Internet Millions the other day and I said there has to be a catch here. First off, if these guys are making so much why are they selling their secrets, even more so, why are they selling them for $30 on TV? Most of these skits are selling a product that is making these people the millions they are talking about!

2. Hard Work – The sound of making millions at the press of a button is quite alluring. I press plenty of buttons every day and I can attest that there is no easy way to get rich. All the people I know that are well off or have above average incomes worked damn hard to get there. Nothing beats hard work and persistence. Find something you love and stick with it! Many people turn their dreams into reality.

3. Research – Watch out for people asking you for your hard earned money whether it is a small or large investment. Most reputable business ideas have proven business practices that got them there in the first place. Think twice when these websites and salesman are doing just that selling you! Is it hard to believe that you can buy your financial freedom for a small purchase of an e-book? Sounds too good to be true… usually it is. Do your research and if you are genuinely interested in a new business take the time to dig deep and find the right methods that have worked for other people.

You may have notices that this post doesn’t tell you what to do but rather how to approach a new business. Having the right mindset in your next venture might just save you a long drawn out headache in the end. As with any business using common sense, hard work, and doing your research can indeed yield you better results than jumping off the bridge into a new project you know nothing about until you make an investment.

Thoughts from an Undecided Voter

As an undecided voter in this election there is much debate within my circle of friends and family as to which way each of us is leaning. During a turbulent time in the American economy an election has never had such an impact on a country that is standing on its toes.

We have heard the debates, the stories, the hogwash, and political slanders. What are we to believe? Is Barack Obama really going to make the changes we need as a unified country or is he just selling us on what we want to hear? Is he really a man of the people that wants to do what’s right in the eye of the people or is he just a democratic pawn. Rumors and facts all mixed together in one giant wheelbarrow of mulch.

During these times people want to hear of change, thought leadership, patience, virtue, and anything that supports their feelings toward today’s issues. Salespeople do just that, they tell us what they want us to hear regardless of what is truth and reality. They sell you on what hits home the hardest.

McCain has historically supported many of Bush’s bills over the last eight years. Myself not being a political activist or honestly a dedicated follower of all of Bush’s bills cannot say if they were inherently damaging or not besides what I hear through the media. What I do know is that the position we are in today calls for action. Which candidate will act on their statements and make the needed changes to drive our economy to the top once again?

We as citizens must remember that we chose to elect Bush for his first term and then again chose to re-elect him for a second term. Although the final decisions come from our electoral college we did have a say over the last eight years as to the direction of this country. So did all the CEO’s and financial institutions of America. They speak of fundamental change over and over again. Hasn’t it historically been the position of democrats to take things slow and steady? Once a new presidency is in place will words and promises succumb to the desires of the people who actually put them there in the first place, the other democrats and republicans, the financial institutions supporting them, the people that put the money behind the mouth of the candidates….

The decision is not clear to me yet but soon I will be forced to make a decision that will affect my family and me for a long time to come. I am not sold on being sold by someone and I am not in support of policy that has put us where we are today for another two terms either.
