Comparison: Verizon iPhone 4 & Two Hot New Android Smartphones [INFOGRAPHIC]

Thinking of picking up one of those new Verizon iPhones? Take a look at this infographic first.

Here’s a comparison of two Verizon-bound smartphones recently introduced at CES 2011, with Verizon’s iPhone 4 rolled out last week sandwiched in between. created by one of Skatter Tech‘s student reporters, it’s remarkably comprehensive.

When you compare the Motorola Droid Bionic and HTC Thunderbolt to the iPhone 4, the iPhone starts to look like last year’s model. Well, that’s because it is.

However, the iPhone 4′s screen resolution is still higher than the other two, and then there’s that iTunes App Store with 300,000 choices for the iPhone, as opposed to the Android Market’s 200,000 apps (and counting fast) for the other two phones (sorry, kid, but you got that number wrong in your infographic).

What we really wanted to see in this comparison was the darling of CES, the Motorola Atrix 4G, that R2-D2-like smartphone that’s powerful enough to be the brains of a laptop, plugging in to its back for an instant large screen and keyboard.

Too bad there’s no 4G capability yet on the iPhone, the lack of which will make those who pick up the Verizon version next month feel like they’re holding onto an antique long before their contracts run out.

Peruse this infographic, and see if the features that are important to you are eclipsed by a model that’s not your favorite:Share this on Orkut!Add to orkut

Leaked Data On Verizon Phone Sales: Bad News For RIM, Or Verizon?

BlackBerry and its manufacturer RIM (NSDQ: RIMM) had a little boost of confidence the other week from some figures that indicated that in the U.S. BlackBerries were used more to consume mobile Internet data than other smartphones such as iPhone and Android devices. but now some further numbers have emerged from Verizon, which point to another, quite worrying trend: no one seems to be buying BlackBerries anymore. What’s the story behind those numbers?

It all started with a report from ITG Investment Research, which got its hands on some data from Verizon Wireless that compared how different handsets were selling at the carrier.

See more of our latest Motorola coverageor add an alert for future coverage of Motorola.

The research, first reported by AllThingsD, noted that in the smartphone segment, 80 percent of smartphone sales in the month of November were of Android devices—with 46 percent of them Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Droid devices.

And as you can see from the sales trends mapped by ITG above, it appears that these November numbers weren’t just a blip, either: the growth in smartphone competition has resulted in a steady decline for RIM, with the most precipitous fall happening about a year ago—around the time that images first began to leak out about the first Android device, Motorola’s Droid, to go onto the Verizon Wireless network. As a point of comparison: BlackBerry, in 2008, was apparently the best-selling smartphone brand at the carrier. (Although admittedly it was also among a much smaller playing field.)

What the ITG figures seem to indicate is that the various phone makers are a lot closer to each other than they were in months past, with no single brand having above 40 percent share. (The big—or little—exception is Palm (NSDQ: PALM), which almost appears off ITG’s chart. however, the graph is charting all phones; and Palm would look healthier if compared only to smartphones. See below.)

While the BlackBerry story doesn’t look particularly promising, the story at Verizon itself may be equally troubling.

Here’s another take on these numbers, courtesy of the analysts at Asymco. They have taken the sales volumes of smartphones and mapped them against the sale of one single device, the iPhone, at AT&T (NYSE: T). Turns out that in Q3 the iPhone outsold all of Verizon’s entire smartphone portfolio by a ratio of nearly two to one.

Conclusion: even with its wide portfolio of devices, Verizon is still underperforming against Apple’s devices. And taking sales volumes of those devices sold by Verizon, in fact all of them have seen declines since August, when the iPhone 4 became widely available.

Asymco notes that the proportion of smartphones at Verizon could become 90 percent Android soon if the current trends continue.

There is still a question mark over whether one kind of OS benefits the operators more than another. Symbian, for instance, has tried to create data services that more closely integrate with the operator’s billing ecosystem, while Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) hasn’t. And in that regard, it’s still debatable whether Android is “good” or “bad” for operators. will questions like this ever play a role in how handsets get rolled out, or has it come down purely to what consumers themselves want?

One thing that is more certain: when Verizon does eventually begin to offer the iPhone, it will almost certainly level the playing field, and may even tip it in its direction, considering all the flak AT&T has had about the quality of its wireless network.

Smartphone vs Iphone – Pros and Cons

Smartphones and iPhone both are the novel introduction for communication, besides having a galore of features. Smartphone has replaced the carrying of a cell phone as well as a PDA separately as it is all-in-one gadget. It is up to the user to employ it as an organizer, a cell phone, an email device, or anything above it.

Any application or software announces its presence in the Smartphone and assures of performing everything that a phone fails to do, and hence are hotter, while iPhone has captured the attention like never before. This is a hot device and the gadget features internet browsing, listening to music and communication. This is considered to be exceptional as it offers multimedia experiences of higher levels.

Smartphones vs. iPhone comparison is interesting, however, the Smartphone platform is truly very strong, but cannot overcome iPhone in a short span of period as the latter has emerged as a block buster. Smartphones have to wait patiently and handle strategically without fancying the commercial techniques alone, as iPhones also seem to be proving.

Verizon Droid has made commercials ensuring night shots, a real keyboard, interchangeable batteries, customization and open development platform. With the specifications mentioned, Droid runs Android 2.0 and is the fastest Smartphone, however is a little thicker than iPhone 3G. This Smartphone offers a high-resolution 3.75-inch display screen, turn-by-turn Google Maps navigation (at least in beta test), a slide-out keyboard, access to Amazon`s MP3 store and a 5 megapixel camera. on the other hand the android platform does not feature the many program applications like the iPhone.

Meanwhile the iPhone 3GS has a 3.5-inch touch screen, access to Apple`s popular iTunes music, video and application store, a digital compass and a 3 megapixel digital camera. It runs on a fast 600MHz CPU with 256MB RAM offering fast services.

Droid is a Smartphone offering the deserved internet experience, while iPhone had to add the AJAX as well as Flash technology to reach to the levels of advancement of its competitors. Droid is incapable of providing as many applications as iPhone, but recently, more applications as well as games on the Android platform are gaining utmost popularity. Similarly, although the iPhone comes with an array of pre-installed software, there is not much indication about a feature called VOIP – Voice over IP. Meanwhile, installing software on iPhone is impossible like that ones you can do it on Smartphone, and this is one of the best pros for smartphones.

The iPhone browser is well ahead than Smartphone and facilitates loading websites such that it offers full view and allows zooming quickly. The iPhone handling is also superior to to any Smartphone available in the market. iPhone features simple strokes using two fingers to zoom in or out that it really makes a significant difference in surfing the web on the phone, besides iPhone also detects if the phone is being handled horizontally and flips the display in accordance to that offering comfort of viewing to the user. Smartphone has a lesser resolution screen than the iPhone and a memory card is for 2GB, while iPhone has 4GB and above.

There is no doubt that iPhone has a cool touch, but is expensive and Smartphones are also the choice of many for its software facilities and is comparatively less expensive.
