PS3 XMB news ticker not updating?
While on the XMB screen, the news ticker(upper right corner where the clock/date is displayed) isn't updating like it used to. The only messages it displays are: now on Playstation Store(repeats twice), Surround Sound System, Download Episode 2 now!, now on Playstation Store, Download now!
It repeats this pattern over and over again. I no longer get game/trailer/demo updates.

Get Ready for Crackdown 2 Xbox 360 Release Download and Play Right Now
The Crackdown 2 Xbox 360 release is scheduled for July 2010, gamers are waiting impatiently for this follow up to the stellar sandbox action game Crackdown. Gamers loved the fun of open world action and addictive progression in the original and are looking for more of that in the sequel.
Reviewers and testers were invited to the Microsoft X10 preview event and were introduced to Crackdown 2 Xbox 360 with a two part demo. the first half of the demo showed how the all new story missions will work and the second showed all the fun that players can stir up using the free form features of the game.
A sample mission involves entering a Cell stronghold in order to obtain a piece of stolen technology. this sample mission took place in a shipping yard full of steel crates. this setting provided a hint at some of the new features of the story missions. one of these is the goal structure that leads players through many different objectives. this is different from the original premise in Crackdown that was essentially a step by step instruction in order to win. another new feature is the mid-mission supply crates that allow players to stock up on weaponry and vehicles without returning to the Agency building.
After the mission portion the demo began to show the types of activities that players can get involved in when they take things at their own pace. the day-night cycle of Crackdown 2 gives gamers two distinct worlds in which to play. the night brings out zombie freaks which can be slaughtered efficiently by running them over. as the game proceeds players can venture into the underground lairs to fight the zombie freaks and discover some other night time enemies. for daytime there are several new pieces of equipment such as the wing suit to enable players to essentially fly from tall buildings, dive bombing, swooping or gliding to land safely on the ground.
Transportation is not a problem for players as there is an agency helicopter, all terrain vehicles and cars which all become more functional and easy to use as your driving level ranks up. the ranking, leveling up and agility orbs are all great motivators to continue the game, to explore the objectives and to totally immerse yourself in this world where you make the decisions that affect what happens throughout the game.
The utter destructive freedom at your fingertips that was evident in Crackdown may lead gamers to wonder how they could possibly follow up a game where the player is already the most powerful force in the city. Ruffian Games simply evens the playing field. There is still plenty of destructive freedom in Crackdown 2 Xbox 360, you can throw cars, leap from buildings, go on violent rampages, but now you will face mutated zombie freaks and other challenging enemies. New weapons, more violence and a city that is showing the effects of all the violent action taking place within are the main components of Crackdown 2.
There are several months to go before Crackdown 2 Xbox 360 is released for purchase and download and in the meantime there are sure to be more enhancements, and refinements announces. Gamers get ready because the violent challenge of Crackdown 2 Xbox 360 is coming.

Who Wins The New Heat Tests – Xbox 360 S vs PS3 Slim | Lazygamer …

Since its release, the Xbox 360′s name has become synonymous with overheating and the good ol’ red ring of death. this of course, was a big enough problem to have Microsoft extend the warranty for RROD’s to 3 years, at a cost a 12,673,536,078,579,524,000.00 Zimbabwean Dollars (That’s a billion US dollars and is in fact, the real amount at the current exchange rate on that side of the border).
The blokes from GoFanboy decided to run test on the new Xbox 360 “S” to see how it fares against the PS3 slim as well as the old fat-ass Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 as well.
To do the tests, GoFanboy aqcuired 4 Xbox 360 S consoles, 4 PS3 Slim consoles, and then one fat PS3 and one fat Xbox 360. They then ran the consoles inside barely ventilated cabinets, in order to simulate the type of heat experienced when consoles are inside demo stands on hot, sweaty showroom floors.
So how do you think the new Xbox 360 S did?
Here’s what they had to say about the results:
“After putting the consoles in barely ventilated cabinets, the tests finally “heated up”. in every slim model tests, the PS3 models shutdown first. this occurred multiple times as we tested each pairing three times. this doesn’t mean the PS3 models are faulty by any means. it simple means they’re designed to shutdown at a lower temp or possibly they heat up faster.
Even after multiple tests in identical situations with high temp exposure, not a single console showed any sign of damage after rebooting. The “fat” models however were a much easier test in terms of time and results. The PS3 160gb won this test in under five hours. Sadly the 360 Premium (fat model) was under able to reboot as we got red ring and boxed that one up.”
So then, it seems like Microsoft have actually been doing something right lately. it seems as though the old days of overheating Xbox 360s may just be a thing of the past, well, that is if you fork out for one of the new models.
All of the consoles fared well, with the exception of the Xbox 360 fat, but that’s no surprise now is it? A special mention has to go out to the old PS3 for still coming out on top.
What this essentially means is that everybody wins. We have finally gotten to a stage where stupid technical faults are becoming a thing of the past, but that’s still no excuse for the amount of turmoil caused by Microsoft and its RROD in the past.
I’m just happy that the new Xbox 360′s run cooler, meaning that less folks like you and me have to sit through a late night Friday RROD surprise ever again.

E3 2010: Rage Is a Shooter 2
John Carmack and the tech team at Id have delivered the tech to make Rage run smooth but I dug the crazy characters and engineering items the most.
A lot of talk this E3 was how Id was able to wrangle 60 frames per second out of the Xbox 360 hardware for its first shooter in over five years. Truth be told, Rage looked really good in all of its brown and black glory. Bethesda showed the game on a huge Panasonic flatscreen and the combat animations didn’t skip a frame. but not only is the tech impressive, there are a lot of interesting gameplay wrinkles in this game that will hopefully make Rage a memorable experience.
The demo started out with an introduction to the kind of characters you meet after your Ark touches back down to Earth. The quick storyline is that humanity had created pods that launched into space when a comet hits our planet. These Arks were supposed to ensure the survival of the human race, and repopulate the planet, but when you emerge from your Ark, you find that not everyone was killed and some have mutated into feral mutants.
Not all the humans are unfriendly, the first guy that we met was named Crazy Joe and he had some tales to tell of the “Authority” and what they’ve been doing to the mutants, making them stronger. If that doesn’t give you a hint of what the overall story arc and endgame will be about, then you certainly haven’t played enough games. still, the demo for Rage had some surprises up its sleeve.
Stepping out of Crazy Joe’s hut, you find that mutants are messing with your buggy. The developer piloting the demo (Jason Kim, Senior Producer) took a few potshots at the mutant with a pistol, but then quickly unloaded a rotating blade Frisbee thing and beheaded the mutant at range. Jumping into the buggy, we started racing to the town of Wellspring. Matt Hooper, Design Director of Rage, said that the demo took place a few hours into the game, after you had assembled your first buggy and equipped it with machine guns and some shielding.
Good thing, because as soon as we hit some open ground, we are attacked by some bandit clans in their own buggies. The machine guns start blazing, and there is some cat and mouse as we drive around a rocky promontory to try to flank the two buggies. The whole fight takes less than 60 seconds, but Hooper assures us that it would have taken much longer without the machines guns.
We make it to Wellspring, where the guard asks us our business. Hooper explains that this is the kind of story-telling that Rage aims for; by the guard simply remarking that we are a stranger here, we get a lot of story information. I’d believe him except that I’ve played about 40 other games in which you play the outsider or stranger and it’s so common now that it’s almost expected, especially in post-apocalyptic stories. Hooper describes the town as a “Western, almost Asian fusion” and the sliding guitar music completes a very Firefly feel. He assures us that, while this town feels that way, the other settlements all have their own character and personality.
Wellspring gets its name from its water source below ground, and after exploring the town a bit (checking out the mechanic where you can buy parts for your buggy and a minigame where you can bet on holographic sheriffs and mutants) an alarm starts to sound from the well control room. we go to investigate and the well manager tasks us with going into the well to prevent a gang from poisoning the water.
The bandits are called the Ghost clan and, predictably, they all have white pasty skin and attack with agility and grace. The combat shows off some of the fun toys that Rage offers. you have a crossbow, and the well manager gives you a new ammo called an electrobolt. By shooting this bolt in the wet atmosphere of the well, you can shock the gang members dead. Later on you come upon a group of gang members all huddled close together. This is a perfect place to use your RC car bomb, which the demonstrator throws down and races in close. “Who’s driving that?” says one of the Ghosts. BOOM!
Hooper tells the gathered game journos that these items can be built by finding or buying recipes and then assembling them through acquiring the necessary parts. we didn’t get to see the crafting interface, but the demo did show off some nifty items like a sentry gun and a spider-like drone that goes around shooting enemies.
The demo skipped ahead to show off a few other locations, but the last scene was the most memorable. I won’t ruin it for you – I get the feeling that it’s something that would be better experienced for yourself – but it was a clever use of a classic story-telling technique. That’s not a knife, now that’s a knife!
The tech of Rage is effective, and the atmosphere and story of the post-apocalyptic landscape may feel a bit overdone, but it, too, is effective. When it comes out on Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows in 2011, I could definitely see it being a big hit and franchise-starter for Id.
