Comparison between iPhone 4 & Windows 7 Smartphone – Gadgetfolio

Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer announced the new Windows Phone 7 OS. this is a big threat to the competitors like Apple’s iPhone iOS, RIM’s BlackBerry and Google’s Android.

We will make  a comparison between iPhone 4 and Windows 7 Smartphone :

Multitasking

Windows Phone 7 won’t support multitasking to begin with, but multitasking may find it’s way in a future update.

Multimedia

Windows Phone 7 will use Microsoft’s Zune software to sync their music and movies to their handset while Apple iPhone use iTunes.

Internet & Email

Apple comes with Safari and Mail applications built in to iOS. Safari features intuitive touch controls and the ability to save your bookmarks to your home screen, whilst Mail boasts a unified inbox and message threading.

Windows Phone 7 comes with Internet Explorer Mobile and Outlook Mobile. Besides, it also support Windows Live, Google, and Yahoo mail accounts and Exchange accounts.

Tethering

Windows Phone 7 devices does not support tethering feature like iPhone. however, this may come in the future update.

Flash

Just like Apple, Windows Phone 7 do not support Adobe Flash.

Camera

The Camera app for iOS is great for taking quick snaps while you’re on the move, which you can then sync to your computer, send to friends via email or MMS, or upload to your MobileMe gallery. Windows Phone 7 features a “Pictures Hub” which, much like camera roll on iOS, houses your entire picture collection in one place. As well as syncing them to your PC and sending them to your friends, you can also upload your pictures directly to Facebook or Windows Live.

Apps & Games

Microsoft have their own App Store for their Windows Phone 7 devices, called “Marketplace.” Will it be successful just like Apps Store from Apple ? Time will tell,  EA – a leading gaming company have already committed to develope games for Win7 devices.

Microsoft have Office applications built-in the Win 7 phones. Even Apple iOS does not come with Office application, but there are 3rd party apps in the Apps Store that support the Office features.

Conclusion

Both of the iPhone 4 and Windows 7 Smartphone have their own advantage and disadvantage, however with the Windows joining the Mobile Phone industry, this will give end users more option to choose.

The Smartphone Race Heats Up

Nielsen Nielsen said smartphones now account for 29.7 percent of all mobile phones in the United States.

According to a report released Wednesday by the Nielsen Company, a market research firm, 30 percent of all mobile phones in the United States are smartphones as customers move away from standard-issue mobile devices. The trend is expected to continue as consumers jump to the Apple iPhone, Google Android platform and the new Windows Phone 7 devices.

The report found the iPhone and RIM’s BlackBerry are “caught in a statistical dead heat with 27 percent of smartphone market share in the U.S.” they were followed by Android, which commands 22 percent of the nation’s smartphone market.

But these numbers could all change in the coming months as people buy new phones for the holidays and more people make the switch to smartphones.

In a survey accompanying the report, 35 percent of smartphone owners said they planned to buy an iPhone for their next phone upgrade, while 28 percent said they hoped to go with the Google Android operating system.

The survey also found that “women planning to get a smartphone are more likely to want an iPhone as their next device, with slightly more males preferring Android.”

Although the number of customers prepared to buy the new Windows Phone 7 were much smaller than those wanting Apple and Google devices, the survey found that 7 percent of featurephone owners “desired” Microsoft’s new mobile operating system.

Although Windows Phone 7 hasn’t really affected the growth of the iPhone or Android, it is nibbling at BlackBerry, which is losing market share.

Nielsen The iPhone and the Android platform were tied in terms of the type of phone consumers hope to purchase next.

Feature comparison

The features of all phones are comparatively very good but according to me if I will go for a phone with all required facilities and features I will go for Motorola Droid 2 because it has approx all features as like others but it has QWERTY keypad which is not available with iPhone and HTC, and also Motorola sports java Via third party application how ever is also sports buy others but Motorola has some incredible JAVA feature including SNS integration, TV-out (720p video) via HDMI port, Document viewer Photo viewer/editor, Adobe Flash 10.1 Voice memo/dial/commands and T9.

These additional features of Motorola Droid make it better than others.

The Next Web Japan » Android claims victory in latest Consumer Reports smartphone rankings

Consumer Reports has gone ahead and refreshed their smartphone rankings (they haven’t done so since August) and if you’re thinking about jumping on board the Android bandwagon or you’re already there, they should put a huge smile on your face.

Running down the rankings on all four major U.S. carriers, Android holds the top position on 3 of the 4. AT&T just so happens to be the only carrier where there is a debate and that’s because both the Samsung Captivate and the iPhone 4 hold top position. However, because the iPhone 4 still isn’t recommended by Consumer Reports because of the antenna issues, one could argue that the Captivate is the highest rated phone on AT&T.

If one were to take that stance, then Android owns the top 4 spots and many others within the top 3 on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon. Here is how it breaks down and keep in mind that these rankings are based on a number of factors including display, Voice Quality and Messaging just to name a few:

AT&T:

1. Samsung Captivate/Apple iPhone 4

(The BlackBerry Torch is 4th.)

Sprint:

T-Mobile:

3. HTC myTouch 3G Slide

Verizon:

(The HTC Droid Incredible is 4th.)

It will be interesting to see where Windows Phone 7 devices and the new Palm Pre 2 fit in a couple of months. will Android’s reign on top end?

Only time will tell.
