New versions of the Apple iPhone, including one that would be smaller and less expensive than current models, could soon be on the way, sources told Bloomberg reporters on Friday.

Dubbed the ‘iPhone Nano’ by the Telegraph, largely because its relationship to the current iPhone would be similar in nature to that shared by the iPod Nano and the iPod Touch, the prototype device was approximately one-third smaller than the Cupertino, California company’s current smartphone and lacked a ‘home’ button, the source told Bloomberg’s Peter Burrows and Greg Bensinger.

According to various sources, the device would launch in the middle of the year alongside the iPhone 5, and would be less expensive to develop because it would use components and processors similar to the current generation device, rather than parts from the forthcoming model. the anonymous source told Burrows and Bensinger that the device could retail for about $200 and would not require consumers to lock into a two-year service contract.

"Apple is also working on a so-called dual-mode phone," two other sources told Bloomberg on Friday. "This device would be able to work with the world’s two main wireless standards–the global system for mobile communications, used by AT&T and overseas carriers such as Vodafone Group Plc, and code division multiple access, used by Verizon Wireless."

They did not know whether or not that feature would be available on the ‘iPhone Nano,’ according to Burrows and Bensinger. Furthermore, the Bloomberg reporters note that Apple is working on "a technology called a universal SIM," which would allow users to choose from a variety of network carriers without needing to switch out SIM cards typically associated with a single network.

The development of these new iPhones, as well as work on a new version of the iPad tablet computer and other aspects of Apple’s day-to-day business operations, are still being overseen by Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs, who is currently on an indefinite leave of absence for medical issues, according to recent reports by both Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal.

"the 55-year-old mr. Jobs, whose ailment hasn’t been disclosed, has been taking business meetings at home and on the phone," sources told WSJ reporter Yukari Iwatani Kane on Friday. "he also has been seen on Apple’s Cupertino, Calif., campus and in public in Palo Alto, Calif., with a company executive, said people familiar with the matter."

Apple representatives, including Jobs, declined both Bloomberg and the WSJ’s requests for comment.

Microsoft have Office applications built-in the Win 7 phones. Even Apple iOS does not come with Office application, but there are 3rd party apps in the Apps Store that support the Office features.

According to a report released Wednesday by the Nielsen Company, a market research firm, 30 percent of all mobile phones in the United States are smartphones as customers move away from standard-issue mobile devices. The trend is expected to continue as consumers jump to the Apple iPhone, Google Android platform and the new Windows Phone 7 devices.

The report found the iPhone and RIM’s BlackBerry are “caught in a statistical dead heat with 27 percent of smartphone market share in the U.S.” they were followed by Android, which commands 22 percent of the nation’s smartphone market.

But these numbers could all change in the coming months as people buy new phones for the holidays and more people make the switch to smartphones.

In a survey accompanying the report, 35 percent of smartphone owners said they planned to buy an iPhone for their next phone upgrade, while 28 percent said they hoped to go with the Google Android operating system.

The survey also found that “women planning to get a smartphone are more likely to want an iPhone as their next device, with slightly more males preferring Android.”

Although the number of customers prepared to buy the new Windows Phone 7 were much smaller than those wanting Apple and Google devices, the survey found that 7 percent of featurephone owners “desired” Microsoft’s new mobile operating system.

Although Windows Phone 7 hasn’t really affected the growth of the iPhone or Android, it is nibbling at BlackBerry, which is losing market share.

Nielsen The iPhone and the Android platform were tied in terms of the type of phone consumers hope to purchase next.

According to Associated Press, Hasbro will unveil the device – My3D – to investors on Tuesday with a view to start selling the device next spring.

Priced at $30, My3D, which resembles a pair of binoculars, promises three-dimensional content that offers a 360-degree experience in gaming, virtual travel experiences and entertainment content according to the news source.

Along with gaming, Discovery, Sony and Imax have all signed up to provide content for the device, while Hasbro has been working closely with Apple during the development stage to ensure the launch is a success.

A selection of “3D” apps will be available from the iTunes App Store to support My3D early next year.

The features of all phones are comparatively very good but according to me if I will go for a phone with all required facilities and features I will go for Motorola Droid 2 because it has approx all features as like others but it has QWERTY keypad which is not available with iPhone and HTC, and also Motorola sports java Via third party application how ever is also sports buy others but Motorola has some incredible JAVA feature including SNS integration, TV-out (720p video) via HDMI port, Document viewer Photo viewer/editor, Adobe Flash 10.1 Voice memo/dial/commands and T9.

These additional features of Motorola Droid make it better than others.

Running down the rankings on all four major U.S. carriers, Android holds the top position on 3 of the 4. AT&T just so happens to be the only carrier where there is a debate and that’s because both the Samsung Captivate and the iPhone 4 hold top position. However, because the iPhone 4 still isn’t recommended by Consumer Reports because of the antenna issues, one could argue that the Captivate is the highest rated phone on AT&T.

If one were to take that stance, then Android owns the top 4 spots and many others within the top 3 on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon.
