Zhu Min named as IMF chief's special advisor

The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund has named deputy governor of China’s central bank, Zhu Min, as his special advisor.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn says he hopes to strengthen relations with emerging economies. The head of the IMF says Zhu Min will bring a wealth of experience in government and the financial sector to his new position, and will play an important role in working with IMF management to enhance understanding of Asia and emerging markets.

Meanwhile, China’s central bank has welcomed this move. The People’s Bank of China says international financial institutions should include more professionals from other economies in their management bodies. This will better reflect changes in the global economic landscape, and improve governance in the IMF.
