A List of the Best Movies Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman
Any time you are going to talk about actors based on talent, one person who should be thrown into the discussion is Philip Seymour Hoffman. Hoffman is a classically trained theater actor, and I think that shows; his poise and versatility are amazing things to watch.
This article will discuss some of the best Philip Seymour Hoffman movies and roles up to this point in his
career.
The first movie I will discuss is a rather dark film and was released on a smaller scale, as many of his films often are. Before The Devil knows You’re Dead is a difficult film to get through, but Hoffman’s acting is nothing short of top notch.
Another great role that Phillip Seymour Hoffman played was as the villain in Mission Impossible III. This wasn’t the best film ever, but you could not ask for a better bad guy.
One movie that must be mentioned when discussing Hoffman films is Doubt. This movie stars Hoffman as a priest being questioned by a strict and evil nun, played by none other than the great Meryl Streep.
Philip Seymour Hoffman doesn’t always feel the need to play the lead role in a film and that is most apparent to me as his role of Brandt in The big Lebowski. he may not have been the star of this movie, but there is no doubt he helped to contribute to its greatness.
One other film that I feel the need to discuss is the movie that nabbed him an Academy Award for best Actor in a Lead Role, and that was of course the movie Capote. Hoffman played the part of Truman Capote as no one else could.
Hopefully there are one or more Philip Seymour Hoffman films on this list which you have not yet seen. Get familiar with this incredible actor, because he will be around for years to come.

‘Horrible Bosses’ star Charlie Day talks real-life horror jobs, playing piano, being a Red Sox fan
“I didn’t know any of the actors other than Sudeikis going into the movie and I got some chills because I’ve always been a fan of Kevin Spacey,” he says. “The very first scene we shot was the one where he yells at me for parking outside his house. It took me a second to realize I needed to do my part as opposed to just watching the Kevin Spacey show.”
In the movie, Day’s character is constantly sexually harassed by his boss, played by Aniston. (Poor guy.) in real life, Day’s experienced his worst boss from his days as a struggling actor/waiter/infomercial receptionist in Manhattan.
“I used to be a busboy and barback at one of those Upper East Side Irish bars with sawdust on the floors,” he recalls. “My boss had these two Winklevoss-type sons who would bartend and never tip me out. one St.Patrick’s Day I worked a double shift, busted my ass for 24-hours straight and then never got my tips.
“I was going to throw a brick through the window, but I just quit quietly.”
While Days claims to have “very fond memories” of his four years living in New York after he graduated from Merrimack College in 1998, most of these recollections are actually fairly dark.
He can vividly recall where he was on Sept. 11, 2001.
“I was at my girlfriend-at-the-time’s place in Park Slope and all I can remember is trying to find my shoes,” he says. “The TV was blaring that we were under attack and I was like, ‘I’ve got to get my shoes so I can kick some ass!’ I guess I was really big into proper footwear.”
Both of Day’s parents were music teachers in the Bronx when he was born and they taught their son to play the piano, which leads to another of Day’s darkly humorous memories.
“When I lived in New York, my apartment was too small for a piano so the musical director at a local church on 22nd Street allowed me to practice at the church,” he says. “One day I was playing and this priest came up to me and said, ‘I don’t like you or your kind.’ And he kicked me out. Now that’s New York for ya!”
Maybe the priest could sense that Day was a Boston Red Sox fan.
“Growing up in Rhode Island, my friends would have strung me up if I had been a Yankees fan,” he says. “A little while ago, I went to a Yankees game with Sudeikis and we were sitting front row in Lorne Michaels’ seats. my buddies from home spotted me on TV and they called to give me crap, not because I was wearing a Yankees cap, because I wasn’t, but because I wasn’t wearing a Red Sox hat.
“But, hey, I didn’t want to get my ass kicked!”
