Stores see waves of customers in afternoon, too – The News Desk

When Stafford resident Alicia Spear showed up at the Kohl’s at Stafford Marketplace at midnight, she couldn’t believe the line. The $10 Kohl’s Cash she was hoping to use didn’t seem quite worth the wait.

“I’ll go ahead and sleep some and come back,” was her thought.

About 12 hours later, she and her two youngest children were in another long line, this time to purchase a few small items. Checkout lines on both sides of the Route 610 location were at least 20 people deep around noon and steadily growing.

But for Teresa Wiley and daughter Katelyn, that line was much more reasonable.

“I just don’t think it’s worth it,” Wiley said about the midnight opening at Kohl’s. she has done the sleeping-outside overnight thing, but now that her daughters are young adults, shopping with them is more manageable.

They picked up some items that may become Christmas gifts, such as a green pea coat marked to $72 from $220. “Act surprised,” was Wiley’s instruction.
