How can you spend a rainy day on Long Island? try visiting a museum. there are plenty of things to do when the weather is nice like going to the beach, a park or participating in a sporting event, but on a rainy day, your options are more limited.

The Island has plenty of museums to keep the whole family occupied. there are science discovery museums, museums of history and various art museums. one of the better museums for kids is the Long Island Children’s Museum in Garden City. the museum has many interactive galleries and exhibits. the museum shows performances fit for children and families. Performances are held on weekends and after school. Work shops take place after school and on weekends as well.

Another museum that is very popular is the Science Museum of LI located on Plandome Road in Manhasset. this is a science activity center, which concentrates on both lab as well as field work. the museum has numerous educational programs, nature walks and hikes. this is definitely a popular place to take the whole family.

If you are interested in maritime activities, try the Whaling Museum located on Main Street in Cold Spring Harbor. they have a Whale Conservation exhibit, a Whaling history exhibit and a 19th century whaleboat. there is a family activity center, films and special events.

One museum that is often overlooked but is quite interesting is the American Airpower Museum located on South Conklin Street in Farmingdale. this museum features an exhibit on jet fighters, bombers and patrol planes.
