Pixar Canada releases video of famous Pixar characters exploring Vancouver

Pixar Canada, the northern arm of the Hollywood animation giant, released Friday on YouTube a video that features its famous characters such as Buzz Lightyear and Wall-E exploring Vancouver.

The video premiered last month at the opening of Pixar Canada’s new studio in Gastown. it features Buzz (of Toy story fame) bravely probing through massive Stanley Park trees, and trash-collecting robot Wall-E basking with his girlfriend Eve in an English Bay sunset.

The Vancouver scenes begin at about the one-minute mark:

Pixar Canada will create three-to-five-minute short films to be seen on cable, and possibly aired before feature films.

The studio wants to be up to about 75 staff within 18 months, said chief technical officer Darwyn Peachey.

Pixar, a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Company, burst into prominence with the first-ever, full-length computer-generated feature, Toy story, in 1995, and has released hits such as Monsters inc., Finding Nemo, the Incredibles, Cars and Ratatouille.

Toy story 3 is due out in June.
