Apple iPod – Why Apple Dominates the Mobile MP3 Player Market

Noticing a growing market for mobile MP3 players, Apple released the original iPod in late 2001, and it was quickly destined to be a huge success. It was exactly what people wanted.. It had a simple interface, it had a large storage capacity, and it was extremely attractive and recognizable. It was only compatible with the Apple Macintosh though, which extremely limited their sales possibilities.

The iPod did end up driving up Apple Macintosh sales though, since a small percentage of people actually migrated over to the Macintosh computer just so they could use an Ipod. It wasn’t enough to drive sales of the iPod up though, Apple needed a bigger market, they needed the Windows market, which was (and still is) much larger than the Macintosh market.

In 2003 Apple released a new iPod that came with iTunes, which was compatible with both Macintosh and Windows systems. This was when the real explosion of sales occurred, since so many more people could use them with the Windows platform.

    The iPod Keys to Success

  • Simple Interface – the Apple iPod has an extremely simple interface, needing only a few seconds of use to be able to master it.
  • Large capacity – the current regular ipod has a 30 or 60 gigabyte storage capacity, which 30 gigabytes equals about 6000 songs. even the smaller versions have a larger than normal capacity.
  • It’s visually attractive – they made it look very sexy, appealing to just about everyone, and is now extremely recognizable.
  • Windows and Mac compatibility – when they crossed over to the windows market, they more than tripled their market, literally reaching anyone that owned a computer

These are the things that really make the Apple iPod dominate the mobile MP3 player market, reaching over 70% of the market share. Apple never simply wanted to dominate the market with one product though, they’re still releasing new products at an alarming rate, each of which are doing extremely well.

  • iPod Mini – This was Apple’s first iPod spinoff, attempting to appeal to a younger market, being the first to come in different color, and it was much smaller than the original iPod. It didn’t have as large of a capacity as the original, but it was still large enough to hold a lot of songs.
  • iPod Nano – Apple retired the Mini, and came out with the Nano, which was even smaller than the Mini, at about a quarter of an inch thick. the nano has exploded onto the market with it’s extremely small size, and has capacities of 1, 2, and 4 gigabytes.
  • iPod Video – This was a replacement for the basic iPod, and the most recent addition to the iPod family of products. the iPod Video not only plays songs like the original, but plays video files as well, and they bumped up the capacity to 30 and 60 gigabytes.
  • iPod Shuffle – the iPod Shuffle is Apples first attempt at the flash drive market, since all of their other products have spinning hard drives. the shuffle replaces the user interface with just a few buttons, and prides itself on the shuffle feature, after it’s name. It is the smallest of the iPod line, at about the size of a usb memory stick, and has capacities of 512 megabytes and 1 gigabyte, appealing to those that don’t need much space and want something extremely small.

The iPod has created a whole slew of other markets as well, from audio companies implementing ipod connectivity support in car radios, clothes companies creating ipod pockets, and other third party companies creating tons of ipod accessories, like carrying cases, protective sleeves, docking stations, the list goes on and on.

It’s no wonder why the iPod dominates the market, with Apple’s ingenious marketing strategies, great features, and appealing looks of their products, the iPod is destined to dominate the MP3 player market for some time.

      Comparing iPhone Vs Android

With many people deciding to enter the smartphone market everyday, there comes the issue of whether to buy an Android phone or Apple’s iPhone. With the expansion of iPhones to all the major cell phone providers, this decision can become more confusing. in the days that iPhone was strictly an AT&T phone, there was a simple choice between whether or not an AT&T plan was a viable option. Now, in this new landscape, you will be faced with an array of phones to thoroughly confuse you. Thankfully, there are people who have used and tested many devices and are willing to offer their opinions to you.

The first point to consider is that Android is purely an operating system and not a phone manufacturer. this can lead to some confusion when trying to come to a decision about which phone to choose. many comparisons around the internet put iPhones up against far less comparable devices that run Android and then claim that iPhones are the supreme leader. the fact of the matter is that there are a variety of phones running Android and they are not created equally. the best way to make an appropriate comparison is look at Android phones that are in the same price range as the iPhone in question. Taking this step will ensure that you are making an appropriate analysis between the features being offered by either device.

The highest-end Android devices compare very well to the newest iPhone model in many aspects and continue to outshine Apple’s product in other areas. iPhones have some of the best 8MP cameras on the market. But, many Android phones come with 8MP cameras as well and take comparable photos. while many phones may not be as slim and light as the iPhone, there are certainly options that come quite close to matching the design specifications of the Apple smartphone.

Android outshines Apple in the realm of customization, which can be a big deal for many savvy smartphone users. There is something about having a device that does not look and feel exactly like all of the similar phones on the market. every single iPhone will look and feel exactly the same, while delivering the same user experience. There are good and bad things to be said about this very homogenized approach to user interaction. for the novice smartphone user, there can be an allure to the simplicity that goes into using an iPhone. But, for a slightly more technically savvy individual, the Android phone can feel a lot more personalized.

iPhone’s new Retina Display is one of the most beautiful screens available on the market on any device. There is realistically no comparison of any Android device to the pixels that are jammed into Apple’s screen. while an entry-level smartphone user will likely never notice this, it can be easily distinguished when the devices are operating side by side. But, many Android devices offer considerably larger screens, which can be preferable when consuming media.

The bottom line is that the choice between the two major operating systems is a personal one and can be a little bit confusing. the advice many people give is that entry-level smartphone adopters should probably choose and iPhone. while people who are experienced in technology and smartphones should probably give Google’s operating system a run. No matter which one you choose, getting a smartphone is becoming more necessary in this society.

iPhone 5 tipped for September again, pops up on server logs

The iPhone 5 is on track for a September launch, according to one ‘insider’, despite whispers of component shortages.

A ‘trusted industry insider’ said that Apple’s fabled iPhone 5 — which will actually be the sixth iPhone from the iPad-spawning company — is on track to debut next month, Apple Insider reports.

The source mentions, however, that there could be some hiccups in the ol’ supply chain, and availability of parts like the touch panels made by Sharp and LG may be on the low side.

Recent murmurs have pointed to Cook and company’s upcoming toy being unveiled at an event on 12 September, and going on sale soon afterwards. the mythical miniature iPad mini is even on the launch event bill, according to one report.

The site’s source handily hints that recently leaked snaps showing the new iPhone in fully-assembled form are “very likely authentic”. the pictures, which match other leaks that have sprung up over the last few months, point to a taller smart phone with a 4-inch display, as well as a sultry stripe across the much-desired gadget’s posterior.

That 4-inch display supposedly has a 16:9 aspect ratio, meaning there are no annoying black bars when you swivel the iPhone around to watch movies and the like. Going by those leaked snaps, the basic look doesn’t seem to have changed much though — something that could irk fans in the market for a fresh design.

Meanwhile, TechCrunch claims to have been sent a screenshot showing a prototype iPhone 5 appearing on a ‘reliable’ source’s server logs. the model is pegged as ‘iPhone5,2’, though whether or not it actually came from the next-generation blower is nigh-on impossible to verify.

Is a 12 September launch event realistic, or is that too soon to expect a new iPhone? let me know what you’re expecting from Apple in the comments or on our Facebook wall.

iPhone 4 – How Much Better is it Than the iPhone 3Gs?

The iPhone has sold more than 50 million units since it was released in 2007. because of this extraordinary number, the possibilities of cell phones have been expanded both in what they can do and how they are used. Leading the charge of the next generation of cell phones is the iPhone 4. is it possible for the device to live up to the hype? The iPhone features a new, 3.5-inch screen called the Retina. It is an IPS, LCD display that lays claim to 326 pixels per inch and a resolution of 960 x 640 pixels. in layman’s terms, this means that the display is clearer and of a much higher resolution than any other phone available. It really attracts the eye. The annoying low battery alert will be heard far less often with the extended battery. The battery life equals seven hours of talk time (300 hours of standby), which is 40% more than the iPhone 3G. The iPhone 4 utilizes the same processor as the iPad. The processor equals or betters that of any other phone on the market and the difference is noteworthy.

The operating system used is the iOS 4, which includes – for the first time – the ability to multitask. that means no more deciding whether to listen to music or check your email, as you will be able to do both, or anything else for that matter, at the same time. You can also create folders in iTunes and iBooks, which could not be done before. in fact, Apple claim that around 1500 features have been improved, modified and created in the new version of its OS, which is undoubtedly quite an improvement. Pictures look great on the iPhone 4. The 5.0 megapixel camera also records video in high-def at 720p. after hearing more than their share of complaints about the cameras in previous iPhones, Apple has apparently decided to listen and take measures to avoid these complaints in the future. The iPhone 4 also brings Face Time to the smartphone game. Face Time allows you to place video calls from a smartphone for the first time ever. Expect to pay around $200.00 for an iPhone 4 with a two year contract. be sure to check various network operators and providers because the price will vary. You may be able to find it for less than $200.00.
