Marc Forgione on The Next Iron Chef [VIDEO] – Slashfood

He didn’t come across on screen as egotistical and overly confident. Chefs, by nature, tend to be confident, out spoken, somewhat cocky beings and I understand those are necessary traits to survive (and thrive) in a professional kitchen. However, it’s difficult when said chef doesn’t possess humility and respect. Mark seems to really have a deep seeded passion for his craft and with ev ery challenge he stayed true to who he was. He never resorted to bad mouthing other chefs, sabatoge or bellyaching when he was penalized with a disadvantage. I watched Marco’s clip before I watched Mark’s interview and I have to admit now that I like Marco much more now than I did at the beginning of TNIC. I think he comes across as a jerk (at times) on the show. He’s the most critical when they judge each others food, he seems to not be above taking all the ingredients if he wins an advantage. He tends to critize the other chefs unnecessarily. However, he is a brilliant chef with the goods to back up the ‘tude. as the show progresses, I’m seeing a softer side of Marco (or maybe it’s just his talent that is making me ignore the fact that he always has to say something negative!) I respect him as a chef, I thought the potato battle was unbelievable! At first I thought he couldn’t possible win with his potato balls! his dish was so clean looking, so organic and true….I only wish I lived in NYC so I that I might be lucky enough to eat his food one day. I’ll have to be satisified watching it on television. One more opinion on this seasons TNIC….Celina Tios is a frickin’ genius. She is the silent horse, I can’t wait to see how far she makes it. I truly believe Mark, Marco and Celna will be the final three but if Food Network has their way (and they usually do) I think Celina will be pushed out to make room for Chef Tsai. Personally I am not a fan. I have bought his cookbooks and watched his shows. to me, this whole East meets West (is anyone else sick of hearing him explain to the judges what his” vision” was for a battle? we know Ming! You fuse East and West. I’d like to see you try something new!) I also think Ming expects to win. He obviously posseses talent, otherwsie he wouldn’t have the career he has. That being said, Rachel Ray is the biggest thing since sliced bread but I don’t consider her a world class chef! I don’t appreciate Ming’s ego and I’m really put off by his obvious irritation that he hasn’t won every challenge. He seems to just expect to win and is shocked when he doesn’t. I was shocked he won last week. I thought that honor so should have gone to #2. But, I digress….I enjoyed both Mark and Marco’s interviews and can’t wait to see who battles it out in Kitchen Stadium, head to head, and becomes the next Iron Chef! reply
