Manhattan safety night to be Friday

MANHATTAN — The Manhattan Police Department and the Manhattan fire Protection District will host Community Safety Night from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday in Central Park.

Firefighters will demonstrate a vehicle extrication. also, the South Suburban Emergency Response Team will simulate a tactical police response.

The Masons will be inside Manhattan fire Department Station No. 1 in front of Central Park with the Illinois CHIP Child ID Program. There will also be a touch-a truck area, live fire sprinkler demonstrations, kids waterball, Smokey the Bear and Sparky the fire Dog, free give-a-ways and more.

MORRIS — Grundy County has completed tax deed proceedings on properties that were delinquent for 2008 and previous real estate taxes.

Eleven items will be offered for sale through a sealed bid auction. Bids are due by Aug. 3 at the Grundy County Treasurer’s Office, 111 E. Washington St., Morris, IL 60450.
