Lamar Odom, Mavericks continue to struggle

After showing some promise of emerging from coach Rick Carlisle‘s bench, Lamar Odom appears to be falling out of favor with the Dallas Mavericks again. And the defending NBA champions now is in danger of not making the postseason.

Odom, 2011 Sixth Man of the Year with the Los Angeles Lakers, played a season-low four minutes, all in the first quarter, of a 94-89 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night. the Mavericks have tumbled to the eighth and final playoff spot.

Odom failed to score as his playing time has decreased significantly in the last four games for Dallas. He’s averaging 2.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in that span.

The Mavericks fell behind 29-10 in the first quarter. They were down by 13 in the third quarter, but Carlisle opted to use reserve forward Brian Cardinal instead of Odom and they were able to cut the deficit to 72-67 entering the fourth.

Odom averaged 14.4 points per game last season with the Lakers, but since being traded to Dallas before the season he hasn’t been the same.

Carlisle has publicly criticized his conditioning and commitment to the team. there are only nine games left in Dallas’ regular season.
