Kevin Love Has NBA's First 30-30 Game in 28 Years

Kevin love accomplished something no player has done since 1982, as the third-year forward recorded 31 points and 31 rebounds to help the Minnesota Timberwolves erase a double-digit halftime deficit en route to a 112-103 triumph over the new York Knicks.

Love’s 30-30 night was the first in the NBA since Moses Malone pulled the trick 28 years ago, and his 31 rebounds set a franchise record for the Timberwolves, who were down as many as 21 before holding the Knicks to 27.9- percent shooting in the second half.

“I just got in a good mindset that every single one was mine,” love said.

Michael Beasley, fresh off a career-high 42-point game, added 35 points in Minnesota’s second straight win following a six-game skid.

Danilo Gallinari and Raymond Felton paced five Knicks in double figures with 25 and 22 points, respectively, but it wasn’t enough to snap the club’s three- game slide.

“Little bit of everything. Took too many quick shots, we turned it over, Kevin love killed us on the boards,” Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni said. “You name it, we did it. this one’s tough to swallow.”

New York held a 30-27 lead after the first quarter and jumped out to a 65-51 halftime lead. Landry Fields’ three-pointer three minutes into the third quarter gave the visitors a seemingly comfortable 78-57 cushion, but the Timberwolves fought back and had the deficit down to 87-80 heading to the fourth.

The Knicks went the first 3:17 without scoring in the final stanza, and Corey Brewer capped the subsequent 10-0 run with a three-pointer, giving the hosts their first lead of the second half.

Love put in consecutive baskets off offensive rebounds later in the quarter, and Beasley’ slam gave Minnesota a 103-94 edge with just over three minutes remaining.

Love capped his historic night with a rare make from behind the arc with 1:17 left, putting Minnesota up 12 points in front of an approving Target Center crowd.

“It’s kind of funny,” love said. “I kept running back to the bench, was talking about my threes. I said, ‘I’m going to make one eventually.’ Mike [Beasley] hit me toward the end there, knocked down the three. I looked toward the bench and said, ‘I told you so.'”
