Is Jeremy Shockey the Greatest Tight End of All Time?

Before you get to deep into this article I must warn you that it is highly based upon my own personal opinions about football and what makes a player great. if you disagree with my opinions in this article that’s fine, that is your right.

Okay, now lets get down to business. Jeremy Shockey in my own opinion is the greatest tight end to ever play in the NFL. many would disagree with me based on the stats of other players and the fact that he might not have quite as many yards after the catch as some other great tight ends. The fact of the matter is this to me though, no other tight end has made as big an impact on the teams that they play for as Shockey has.

Shockey has already earned himself one Super Bowl ring with the new York Giants and could very well be on his way to winning another one this year with the new Orleans Saints. in his time with the Giants he was named to the Pro Bowl four of his first five seasons. his outspoken character has been speculated to be the cause of his trade to the Saints along with the fact that he did not play for some of what could be considered as the more important games of the Giants championship season.

Regardless of what the reason for the trade was, the fact of the matter is this, the Saints are winning and the Giants aren’t. now I am sure that plenty of people would argue that Shannon Sharpe, Tony Gonzalez, or Mike Ditka even were better tight ends than Shockey. this could be the case, as I said you have the right to your own opinion, but have any of these players brought what Shockey has to their respective teams? I don’t think any of them have, and for this reason he is considered to be the greatest tight end of all time.. at least in my book.
