Inside the Oasis Lounge at New York-JFK’s Terminal 4

The pros: · we hate to say it, but this may be one of the better lounges at JFK because of its offering free booze and food. · The wines had more than one choice, and the other beverages were nicely varied. · The view—of the tarmac, control tower and many boarding gates—is excellent. we spotted the A380 tail right away and enjoyed the evening light show on the ATC tower. · There’s plenty seating, much of it along the windows, so it’s rare you’ll feel crowded. · The leather couches in the library/family room are great for napping if you’ve arrived extra early or are on long layover.

The cons: · The design of the place leaves something to be desired; furniture feels mismatched and the “oasis” theme is attempted with unnecessary umbrellas. · The wraps and food aren’t worth filling up on if you’re about to fly in business class. We’d actually wait for the plane food. · The lounge is before security, so you’ve still got to worry about all that. · The library/family room feels too closed off and random; a easy place to loose track of time and miss your flight, or wind up with mysterious crumbs stuck to your bottom from the cracks of the leather couches. · The bathrooms here have only one shower for males, one shower for females, so good luck getting it.

Disclosure: we snooped around the Oasis Lounge while traveling as a guest of Singapore Airlines, but all photos and opinions are (obviously) our own.
