Hawaii News Now – KGMB and KHNL HomeFormer UH quarterback Colt Brennan injured in head-on collision

KONA (HawaiiNewsNow) – former UH quarterback Colt Brennan checked into the Queen's Medical Center Friday afternoon after he was involved in a head-on collision on the big Island.

Those close to Brennan tell us he's suffering from internal bleeding in the brain and back injuries… possibly a broken back. We're also told that Brennan is unresponsive.

The crash happened at 9:36 a.m. on Queen Kaahumanu Highway at the 90 mile marker near Makalawaena.

Police say Brennan was a passenger in a 1997 Toyota SUV headed north. The SUV crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 1996 Saab sedan.

The driver of the SUV has been identified as 27-year-old Shakti Stream of Kona. Stream is Brennan's girlfriend.

Both were taken to the Kona Community Hospital. Police say Brennan was in serious condition at that time. He was later medevaced to Oahu.

Police say the driver of the Saab sedan is a 47-year-old woman from Waikoloa.

She was transported to North Hawaii Community Hospital in Waimea.

Big Island police have opened two negligent injury investigations.

It is unknown if speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Brennan returned to the islands last month after he was released by the Oakland Raiders.

He's been vacationing on the big Island and was at the Warriors big win over Nevada.

Last month, he had a one-day workout with the Houston Texans, but nothing materialized.

In his three years at UH, Brennan broke 31 NCAA passing records including “Most Career Touchdown Passes” in 2007.

He was a sixth round draft pick by the Washington Redskins, but was cut in August.
