EA Officially Announces The Sims 3 For Consoles News

EA has official confirmed that The Sims 3 is coming to consoles following the publisher’s first mention of the transition during its Q3 financials in February. however, despite our early hunches that EA might implement Natal and move tech in the games, both Xbox 360 and PS3 versions appear to be utilising conventional control methods at this stage.

According to the initial press release, the various console platforms will be getting their own specific standout features. In the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, for example, players will get Facebook integration for in-game rewards, trophies, and achievements as well as item creation and sharing facilities with other players.

An exclusive beach town will then come to the Wii version with an additional head-to-head ‘Life Moments’ game and exploratory adventure quests, while on the DS players will have the ability to customise their home and individual Sims via the DS’ stylus in what EA is calling “the most robust create a Sim yet for a handheld game”.

Other headlining features include a ‘Karma Powers’ system, which allows players to have impulsive controls over whether their Sims ‘get lucky’, experience an ‘epic fail’, or are bestowed with ‘instant beauty’. quite what this means in practice is beyond us right now, although it certainly sounds like players will have more instant power over their Sims’ fate than we’ve seen previously.

“The Sims series continues to be one of the most successful videogames of all time by providing universally appealing content and focusing on the player’s imagination, emergent gameplay mechanics, and the innate humour evident in the virtual world of The Sims,” said Scott Evans, General Manager of The Sims Studio. “We’re building on this foundation and applying new features that will make for a robust, deep and rewarding gameplay experience. I’m extremely proud of the game that the team is making and can’t wait to bring these exciting new features like ‘Karma Powers’ to life and get them into players’ hands.”
