Dr. Seuss, Detroit Tigers Among Weekend Highlights

GALA 2011 is held today at the Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland. The museum’s annual black-tie benefit features a gourmet dinner, silent auction, dancing, socializing. it begins at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $350 per person; 688-7743.

THE 17TH ANNUAL CENTRAL FLORIDA DANCE CELEBRATION, a Florida Dance Arts event, takes place at 7 p.m. at Branscomb Auditorium, Florida Southern College, Lakeland. Admission is $6.

THE ANNUAL GREEK FESTIVAL is in Winter Haven this weekend, at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church. There will be Greek food, music, vendors, dancers, church tours, cooking demonstrations, attic treasures, grocery store. The fundraiser for the church takes place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The $2 donation is good for both days. The church is at 1030 Bradbury Road.

A DANCE PERFORMANCE is planned today in Winter Haven. The all Saints’ Academy, Florida Dance Theatre production is held at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Hollis Media Center Auditorium, all Saints’ Academy. Admission is $10 adults, $5 students.
