Police dog that went missing Sunday found limping on road
Taz, the missing Santa Rosa police dog, has been found.
An employee at VCA Forestville Animal Hospital in Sebastopol found the 4-year-old Belgian Malinois wandering on Starr Road in Windsor while she was on her way to work around 10 a.m. today, Santa Rosa police Lt. Steve Bair said.
The K-9 was discovered missing from an enclosure in the backyard of his handler’s Windsor residence at Starr Road and old Redwood Highway around 11 p.m. Sunday.
Police believe he became frightened by nearby fireworks. the town of Windsor held its fireworks celebration Saturday night, but people firing off illegal fireworks might have frightened the K-9, Bair said.
The 70-pound dog is in good health but was limping and may have injured his right shoulder when he hopped a fence, Bair said. the dog’s nails also were worn down to the pads of his paws.
“It looks like he pulled an all-nighter,” Bair said.
The employee scanned a chip in the dog’s neck for identification and determined it was European. Bair said the chip was implanted in Europe.
The employee saw news stories about the missing dog and called Santa Rosa police.
Taz was at the Santa Rosa police station this morning and will be checked by a veterinarian Tuesday, Bair said.

Projo:The website of the Providence Journal went back to work after down more than three hours Tuesday morning after experiencing technical problems.
The site began to load normally, about 11 am Tuesday.
Customers achieve projo.com Tuesday morning a blank page, except “HTTP/1.1 Service Unavailable.” the message usually indicates a server overload or a Web site technical malfunction.
According to the magazine for parents, Dallas, AH Belo Corporation, were not available for comment Tuesday morning, a woman in press office said.
Around 10:15 am, the newspaper published a report apologies for the inconvenience and said technicians perform some “service system”.
The magazine, however, continue to post the items on its Twitter and RSS feeds, as well as its news blog.
Magazine site last experienced major break in July 2009.
The last trip occurred less than a week before the AH Belo plans to report its second quarter profit.
