• The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce meets at noon Jan. 9 at the Dena’ina Convention Center to hear "Oil Taxes: The other Side of the Coin." Alaska Rep. Les Gara will address the current ACES oil tax structure and discuss why increased oil tax credits for new exploration and new processing facilities are needed to put new oil into the pipeline. he will also discuss stronger alternatives to Gov. Statewide Economic Forecast luncheon: this annual event hosted by World Trade Center Alaska will be conducted in the state’s three largest cities beginning in Fairbanks on Jan. 17, in Anchorage on Jan. 18 and in Juneau on Jan. 19. The Anchorage event begins at noon in the Howard Rock Ballroom of the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel. Speakers include Jonathan King, principal and senior economist with Northern Economics inc.; Aryam Vazquez, global emerging markets economist for Wells Fargo Country Risk Management Group; and Greg Wolf, executive director for World Trade Center Alaska and consultant for the U.S. Department of Commerce.
