Watkins Glen International race track has decided to rename its five existing grandstands for the 2012 season. Fans are encouraged to present ideas via email at racing@theglen.com by March 31, or by mail to 2790 County Route 16, Watkins Glen, NY 14891. The 13th annual Sport Martial Arts Championship International Tournament will be held at the Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls on Friday from 5 to 11 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants range in age from 4 years old to adult. Visit www.smacinternationals.com.

Williamsville South varsity cheerleaders competed in the Contest of Champions Cheerleading Competition in Disney World, Florida. The team won two awards, taking first place National Champions and a Level 4 Top Score, earning a cash prize.

Team members are: Carly Butt, Catie Sedor, Eliza Meyers, Missy Therrien, Sara Schleicher, Melissa Lacherie Ried, Samantha Daniels, Sammi Michalski, Marissa ElHawa, Carissa Turner, Shanna Krugolets, Brittany Phillips, Lizzie Zells, Anna Manna, Lindsey Krempa, Ashley Wzontek, Morgan Mathien, Maddie Meyer, Sandy Bodami, Racheael Utech, Jessica Miranda, and Julia Hammerl.

Buffalo Turners’ girls teams took part in the Nickel City Invitational hosted by Gymnastics Unlimited in Orchard Park on Feb. 10-12.

The Level five team of Ava Curry, Eve Giancarlo, Rebecca O’Connor, Shay Sommer, Sarah Denman, Angelyn Johnson and Kemba Seals took third place in the team competition. Giancarlo won floor exercise with 9.525, third on bars (9.15) to finish third all-around (36.25). Curry was second on beam with 9.2. O’Connor placed third on vault (9.15) and seventh all-around (35.9). Sommer finished sixth on bars (9.2) and eighth all-around (35.45). Denman, fifth on bars (9.0) and sixth all-around (35.1). Johnson was fourth on bars (9.3) and seventh all-around (35.075) and Seals took fifth on vault with 9.25.

Level six Alexandria Gorcheck took the all-around in the 13-year old group scoring 36.525 after winning bars and placing second on floor. Twelve year old Molly Denman placed second on beam (9.4) and floor (9.325) coming in fifth all around. Mikala Thursam placed third all around in the 10 and under age group finishing second on beam and third on bars. Meadow Wright competed at level six.

Level four Mahagony Mobley scored 9.75 to win the vault event. Kayleen Jenkins placed third all-around as well as third on vault and beam. Racquel Tornambe finished third on bars with 9.15. Claire Huber placed fourth on beam. Teammates included Alexis Pohrte, Kayla Butler, Madison Piggot, Camryn Smith, Brooke Eichel, Allison Webb, Jaina Dulniak, and Emily Kuhn.

Level seven Emily Maulucci placed first on bars (9.075), third on beam (9.3), and fourth on vault (9.1) to take third place all-around. Olivia VeRost placed fourth on vault (9.225), Alexandra Piehler placed fourth on floor (9.15), and Dakota Piehler took fifth on bars (9.45).

Aaliyah Blanks took the all-around title (35.775) in the 10-11 age group at Level Eight after winning both vault and floor and finishing second on bars and beam. in the 15-16 group, Aja Devlin placed third all around as well as winning bars. Lara Krys finished second on floor (9.225) and Emily Battaglia placed fifth on bars and beam. Shannon Finucane placed third on bars.

BASKETBALL: Loren Smith will hold two basketball camps at Panama Central School Campus for grades 4-9, one for boys and one for girls. Boys camp will be held July 9-13, and girls camp will be held July 16-20; each camp runs Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $110 per camper, with early registration and family rates available.
