Portland indie-pop duo The Ravishers hit the Comet Saturday night for what promises to be an evening of scrumptulishous jams.  Coming off of the release of their eponymous debut album, The Ravishers arrive in Seattle with a head of steam, boasting a set of tunes that promise to please both the avid fan and the casual Comet-goer.

Dominic Castillo and Jonathan Barker, the two halves of The Ravishers, take song-writing seriously, and it shows. “My thoughts Are Killers,” for example, combines a nasty fun guitar riff with well wrought lines such as “I’m not saying there isn’t genuine emotion/but in your songs all the passion/is just the latest fashion.”

Joining The Ravishers will be a pair of local favorites: Red Jacket Mine and Transient Songs. Red Jacket Mine has a variety of gears, ranging from soft and sweet, to head banging. After five years of gigging the northwest together, this three piece set has reached a new level with their live show. Frankly, it kicks butt.

Transient Songs combine reverb rich guitars with Pink Floyd-esque vocals. The end result is a whole different mood then the one you are feeling right now. “Wide Open Skies” approximates the sensation of dreaming that you can fly, and “Smoking Slows the Healing,” well—the title is pretty spot on.
