Alabama May Have Lost a Game, but May Have Got a Big Recruit, Jordan Jenkins

Larry Burton (Syndicated Writer) Alabama may have lost a game last Saturday night, but they may have landed a big time recruit in Jordan Jenkins, a 6’3” 245-pound defensive end prospect from Hamilton, Georgia and Harris County High School.

Previous to his visit to Tuscaloosa this past weekend, he had been quoted by several sources as having Auburn and Florida as his top choices. That may have changed this past week.

Greg Ostendorf of reported that Jenkins said that being here for the LSU game weekend resulted in Jenkins saying, “Right now, Alabama is a little ahead of the rest.”

He watched the game along with other Georgia recruits Geno Smith, Justin Taylor and Brandon Greene. Geno Smith is already committed to Alabama and has been friends with Jenkins now for a few years. Smith, a highly rated cornerback, ran in to him and gave his own recruiting spiel to Jenkins.

Justin Taylor is a 4-star running back and like so many others, is already committed to Alabama just like big 6’6′, 280-pound Brandon Greene, an offensive tackle commitment.

Also from Georgia were Dillon Lee and Kenyan Drake. Lee, like Geno Smith, is already committed to Alabama and is looking like a linebacker prospect and Drake, a 4-star athlete who plays running back now. Drake is also already committed, but it was his first time to see a game in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

These players were all allowed to soak in the pre-game excitement and got to walk on the field before the game, and I’m sure all put their two cents in to Jenkins to come and join them at Alabama.

On Sunday, Jenkins went to head coach Nick Saban‘s house to meet with some of the coaches and play a little basketball, which resulted in Jenkins wrecking Saban’s goal after a monster dunk.

Besides getting to see the Tide play, feeling the electricity of Bryant-Denny Stadium on game day and getting to see his favorite Alabama players up close, the extra time spent with Saban and the other coaches may have just paid off and attribute to fact that Jenkins has moved Alabama to the top of his list for now.

Jenkins is not expected to make an announcement any time soon, however, and he has other visits lined up before deciding.
