What is affiliate marketing?

If you are new to online business then this is a question that you ask yourself at one point or another.  In a nutshell affiliate marketing allows regular people like you and me to become an extension of another businesses marketing structure. What better way for a large company to gain market share and sales than to get other people to do the marketing for them.  Why not make your marketing efforts a shared resource with other business owners?

Affiliate marketer’s can use resources the affiliate company provides to market and sell their services to the public. In return for helping the affiliate company market their products they give you a “share” of the profit in one form or another.  This can range widely with each program and we will discuss this further in another post where we get specific with various programs and services available.

How exactly does Affiliate Marketing work?

Affiliate marketing isn’t a difficult concept to grasp and almost anyone can take advantage of their profit generating ability. Even better, you get to leverage the millions of dollars spent on marketing analysis by these affiliate companies for free by using their researched and time tested marketing collateral to drive sales through your business.

3 Stages of an Affiliate Program

If you take a look at the Affiliate Marketing Profit Pyramid you can break it down into three simple stages or sections.

Stage 1

Affiliate companies develop programs that allow business owners to take their material and place it on their own website to help generate additional income.

Stage 2

Business Owners, Blogs, General Website Owners, etc. can register and enroll for Affiliate Programs. Once accepted into the program materials are shared for your use with your marketing program.  In other words, you can take a link, graphic, text box, and put them on your website, email newsletter, or other marketing material.

Stage 3

Visitors to your site can click on any affiliate program link that is on your page. They will then be taken to the affiliate company’s website or portal where they can make purchases, or access services. If a purchase is made then you will get a reward in return, whether it is monetary, a gift card, or services in return, each program is different.
